I wrote about crypto. The knock has been that the technology has few use cases. But, post-election I think crypto's legacy is clearer. Its killer app is creating a money/influence flywheel for a specific type of reactionary anti-institutionalist to influence politics. It's gonna get weird (gift)

South Korean citizens helped lawmakers scale the National Assembly walls so they could bypass military barricades and vote against martial law.

I'm at the National Assembly building. The army is here. And I just saw two soldiers in fatigues getting pushed around by belligerent ajusshis. and they looked legit scared.

Feels important to also give the actual numbers:

Transgender: 1 percent
Muslim: 1 percent
Jewish: 2 percent
Black: 12 percent
Live in New York City: 2 percent
Gay or lesbian: 3 percent (okay this one seems real low?)
“In 2022, YouGov asked “What percentage of Americans do you think are ___?”

The results were hilarious.

Trans: 21%
Muslim: 27%
Jewish: 30%
Black: 41%
Live in NYC: 30%
Gay or lesbian: 30%

The errors are off by orders of magnitude. The trans estimation by 2,000%.”

I joined Bluesky 18 months ago, and I have more followers here now than I ever had on twitter despite being there for >10 years, which is kind of nice!
I’m not really sure why, but whenever I posted art there it always felt like no one saw it. Anyway, here’s one of my old pieces!

This is by far the best criticism of bsky/atproto I've seen so far: dustycloud.org/blog/how-dec...

I mean that in the sense of "fair" and "understands what they're talking about" as well as a more traditional "makes good points".

Augusta Britt, secret teenaged muse of a middle-aged Cormac McCarthy, sounds like a fascinating person but this profile of her in Vanity Fair does not do her justice. [vanityfair.com]
Cormac McCarthy’s Secret Muse Breaks Her Silence After Half a Century: “I Loved Him. He Was My Safety.”

Augusta Britt would go on to become one of the most significant—and secret—inspirations in literary history, giving life to many of McCarthy’s most iconic characters across his celebrated novels and Hollywoo
