It just occurred to me that this app doesn’t have a stupid baby man-child at the helm, suppressing Substack links. So I’m going to start sharing some pieces from the archive, starting with this little short story I wrote.

Fellow white girls gays and theys stop romanticizing an old house in New Orleans that was definitely built by enslaved people just bc it was owned at some later point by a girl-boss madam challenge, level: impossible

I yearn for a gown made from the Witches of Scotland tartan. I need to buy 3 meters of the stuff and have a legendary octogenarian Scottish seamstress drape it on my body and I will pay her handsomely and I will wear the dress at every formal occasion for the rest of my life idc idc idc

I know many ppl who have written for the NYT and who have since regretted it and vowed never to do it again.

I for one never even consider pitching there because I simply don’t want to be associated with the NYT. Please give your money to independent, critical media instead.
I think there are a number of people employed at the New York Times -- certainly not all of them, but many! -- who simply do not grasp how badly the paper's credibility has been shaken over the past few years, along several different axes, and for multiple different reasons

As of this morning, Starbucks workers across the country are officially ON STRIKE. And we're prepared for this to become the biggest and longest ULP strike in Starbucks history.

Say #NoContractNoCoffee with us: DON'T BUY STARBUCKS for the duration of our open-ended ULP strike! $SBUX

In a recent study of aircraft air systems, COVID was found on 96% of planes tested. I am the only person on my flight wearing a mask right now.

Lots of folks captioning aurora photos like "for a few minutes we didn't think about politics"

guess I'm built different, every time I'm out trying to see night sky stuff I frequently think about how much light pollution is entirely preventable with just a tiny bit of regulation

"male chronophilias" are not real science. no it is not "technically ephebophilia." it's not a "paraphilia," it's not a sickness, it's not a condition, it's not a "natural biological tendency of males," etc--it's socially constructed. cis men learn that sex is power & the powerless invite domination

seeing a lot of of "technically it's ephebophilia" so i remind you that sexology is a pseudoscience akin to evopsych or phrenology. the "science" of "male chronophilias" from which this distinction is derived, is total nonsense. it's a pseudoscientific medicalized naturalization of *SOCIAL* violence

I see the “technically it’s ephebophelia” crowd is out today, so just a reminder that A) this is NOT a case where technically correct is the best kind of correct and B) the minute you say this, the gods dump you in the “irredeemable creeper” basket and wash their hands thoroughly after touching you.

‘Nickname’ is not ‘nick’ + ‘name.’

It was originally ‘ekename.’

‘Eke’ was the Middle English word for “also” or “in addition.”

Since ‘ekename’ began with a vowel, people used ‘an’ before it.

Over time, 'an ekename' became 'a nickname.'

This outcome makes a lot more sense when you remember that Schumer was backing Cuomo, the candidate preferred by the billionaires who help finance Trump's campaigns. You might think Tuesday would be a big win for the Democrat Minority Leader, but it was actually a loss as it represents the erosion

Calling the Democrats “cowards” suggests that they're scared to do what's right when they show no fervent interest in being an opposition. They're largely colluders, not cowards. Many want their base to think they're cowards to maintain investment in the idea that they can be pushed to do better.

Abolish the Senate.

It's antidemocratic, anti-Black, and classist. It exists solely because the racist founders thought the House of Representatives was TOO democratic and because the southern slavers demanded a house of Congress where they'd have outsized influence.

Get rid of it.
