I think we should institute a floating tax point based on however much it will cost to fill all societal needs

Childcare is yet another rising cost for young families along with rising rents, utilities, groceries, and more.

Through Preschool for All we are providing some relief, with more than 3,800 tuition-free seats helping families across Multnomah County save thousands of dollars each year.
New in @thehill.com: In many cities, parents are paying more for child care than for rent.

Nationally, caring for an infant and a 4-year-old costs 31.5% more than a two-bedroom apartment.

This is a structural failure in how we think about, fund, and govern care. https://bit.ly/47KGD7i
Some parents paying more for child care than rent: Study
“Spending almost $1,300 a month on child care is a massive burden for parents,” said Lending Tree's Matt Schulz.

Today Portland City Council will have a final hearing and vote on my Algorithmic Price Fixing Ban!

So grateful for leaders like @agdanrayfield.bsky.social for leading the charge in the courts. Corporations should not be taking advantage of regular people for profit. Affordable rent NOW!
BREAKING NEWS: We’ve secured a $7 million settlement holding the largest U.S. landlord accountable for a price fixing scheme – and putting a check on the rising cost of rentals.

Disagreement on policy is welcome and reasonable, but calling me a Nazi for cosponsoring an ordinance to ban price-fixing is completely unacceptable. Councilor Ryan edited his post, but did not disclose the edit and explain the nature of the substantive change, so it’s here for posterity.

it is almost as if accommodating and conceding to far right ideas legitimizes them and signals to voters that the far right is a legitimate choice for governance
The Danish Social Democrats are currently on course for their worst election result since at least the Second World War, despite their brand of far-right accommodationism being touted as a blueprint for other centre-left parties.

Two months ago, some pretty wonderful news came out about a clinical trial showing that a gene therapy might be able to delay the progression of Huntington’s Disease.

HD is a devastating neurological disease that attacks behavioral, cognitive and motor function.

It’s fatal and it’s genetic. 🧵

yes YES!!!
Preschool for All has added 240 mid-year seats!

That’s brings the total number of tuition-free seats PFA is providing for families throughout MultCo to over 3,800 seats across more than 220 locations — exceeding this year’s goal by 27%.

We remain on track to reach universal coverage by 2030.

This unimaginable tragedy happened at N Interstate and N Lombard — which remains one of Portland's most inhumane and stressful intersections.
My son Seamus died 15 years ago today. He was killed by a careless driver in a crosswalk.

He walked at 9 months, almost as if he knew he wouldn’t have much time. His favorite thing to do was throw rocks into water. He loved the moon. He called butterflies “buddy buddies.” I miss him every day.

Please email Portland City Councilors directly to vote in favor of Morillo’s amendment. Testimony is great, but that direct outreach is really important right now.
Very excited to see @councilormorillo.bsky.social introduce an amendment to the fall budget adjustment to shift funding from sweeps to other critical city functions! That is half of one of our demands in our Finding Home petition linked in my bio.

Show up and support Morillo’s amendment!

My family has been without half our income for 40 days. It has been.. very hard.

We are willing to feel that pain so people can have health care next year, or to undo these illegal recissions.

We are not willing to have been put through this for NOTHING.
