The Oregonian (probably through its parent company) seems really bent on using AI to produce more and more of its product in recent years. Looks like AI is now narrating some stories for them.

Exactly - serving everything up to the wealthy and treating business as the savior of society is the actual doom loop.
important to remember that it’s an old playbook with a poor track record. it’s called beggar thy neighbor policy making and results in municipalities racing to the bottom on everything from labor standards to the provisioning of public goods. not good.

Oregon's SB 1521, modernizing inclusionary zoning in the Portland metro area, unanimously passes Senate Housing. 🎉

Based on 10 years of lessons, it gives cities new policy options + a requirement that such programs be fully funded.

Moves to senate floor!

It’s hard to overstate how many social and environmental problems could basically be solved by creating a world class public transportation network in this city/state/country and fully subsidizing it as a necessary public good.
Rep. Boshart Davis also wants to limit state transit funding only to transit agencies that can prove they have a farebox recovery ratio of 50% or more. Looks like a clear ploy to freeze out TriMet, since their current ratio is about 7%.

Today was a full-circle moment. 💕

In 2020, Portland voters passed police accountability reform with 82 percent of the vote. That didn’t happen by accident. Community members organized, testified, drafted language, debated structure, and refused to accept a system that wasn’t working. 🧵
