This is the teacher federal agents grabbed yesterday at Rayito De Sol daycare in front of children. Attorneys for Diana Santillana have filed a petition in federal court to have her freed from ICE custody.

A program in Flint, MI, gave $1,500 to any/all pregnant people and $500/month for the first year of their infant’s life.

Among the benefits, those babies experienced lower rates of prematurity and low birth weight, which resulted in fewer NICU admissions, saving the city of Flint $6.2 million/year.

Marian R. Byrnes Nature Area is a top-tier spot to bike or walk amid nature. Indulged myself with a quick visit there after work today as the sun was going down and it was stunning!

How to spot if it’s AI or not:
- is the anatomy of the animal accurate?
- do feathers seem to have fur-like rendering?
- does the video look almost TOO cinematographic?
- does the plumage match the actual species?
- are the proportions of the eyes/body designed to be cute/marketable?

This is AI.

i'm just as frustrated as anyone at how the NYT does news, but maybe it's simply time to accept that their front page is no longer the yardstick for what's actually important and relevant.
this is potentially the biggest scandal in presidential history and today's NYT didn't put it on the front page. today it's not above-the-fold on the website either (they do have a "grocery prices are falling!" story though lol)

“The frustration isn’t yet producing mass resignations or major internal protests, but the officers and agents described a workforce on edge, vilified by broad swaths of the public and bullied by Trump officials demanding more and more,” Nick Miroff writes.
Trump loves ICE. Its Workforce Has Never Been So Miserable.

My latest for American Scientist Magazine helps give scientists the tools to fight back against politicized charges that our research is silly or pointless- tools that will work whether you’re asked “why are we funding this” from your asshole uncle at Thanksgiving or an asshole US Senator.

In 2019, the year before the pandemic, Chicago recorded 115 traffic fatalities, according to medical examiner’s office data. Five years later, in 2024, the city saw 175 traffic-related deaths — a 52% increase. www.chicagotribune.com/2025/05/28/c...
Chicago fatal car crash totals remain stubbornly high in pandemic’s wake
