Im sure there will be no issues there at all.

thinking about how bloated video games have become over the past decade-and-a-half or so and wondering if maybe the upcoming hardware shortage could lead to video game studios re-learning the lost art of optimizing their god damn games before release like they used to

The reverse correlation of how mgmt thinks of people vs tech amazes me.

The tech can make a ton of mistakes, but that's OK, it will magically get better someday. To hire a person they must prove they have solved your exact problem before and 100% guaranteed to be successful on day one.

It's maddening hearing folks talk about LLM use-cases within their tools that would seem to be so much more effectively and reliably addressed by simple domain-specific implementations of solutions.

A generation of programmers who've gleefully deskilled these fundamental skills of "paying attention to detail" and "using those details to construct a mental model" is a generation of programmers who can't fucking program.

it's just this leaky hole in your life that everything you carefully set up for yourself can just fall out of at any time, and the idea of treating you with any sympathy for it is completely alien to any representative of the system you come in contact with

there’s magic that allows you to measure the semantic distance between concepts that were previously abstract in a very qualitative way…

…and also that technology has become the inextricably linked to the aesthetics of modern fascism and anti-social behavior!

it feels bad!!!
i’m convinced this is a very uncomfortable thing for most people involved in ML to actually do because it involves some brutal self-reflection on the contrast between what excites them vs. how the technology is being applied as a corrosive force outside of their bubble!
if anyone thinks bsky is uniquely anti-AI then they would do well to make friends with teachers, non-ML academics, authors, publishers, and the like!

In general, AI adoption levels are a measurement of to what extent a particular reward system (a corporation, a market, academia as a whole system) has ceased to distinguish between doing a thing and pretending to do a thing
One of many things the pro-AI crowd doesn't seem to understand is the very important distinction between academic scholarship and the production of papers. Of course they can be related but they're not necessarily the same thing

You know, some days I sit and think about how absolutely wild it is that we've built a society where we don't provide a place for people to even sleep at night without having to pay for it, and that we've somehow made it seem like that's normal.

Super Mario Sunshine confuses people because many put it in the box in their mind they reserve for 'Polished Nintendo platformer' and judge it harshly by comparison to the others.

But it's better understood in the context of 'Weird and fascinating kusoge'.
In Super Mario Sunshine, each plank of the Pianta Village bridge has separate collision for an unknown reason. This causes microscopic invisible gaps to form between the planks that extremely unfortunate players can slip through and die. Below is a compilation of such cases.
