I think this is because straight people are so used to the limits of heteronormativity that they assume being gay must mean having some kind of mirrored and corresponding homonormativity.
I still find British TERFs' fixation on the very specific idea that gay people are going to be pressured into dating trans partners under the threat of social ostracism to be extremely strange. They bring it up constantly.

One of the specific things I hate about Algogen churn is how it killed the fine art of Unhinged Photoshopping Jokes. No perfectly airbrushed amalgamation will ever be as funny as a crudely cut and pasted celebrity head with visible jaggy edges
