This is possibly my favorite product answer yet:

Q: Will this deodorizing spray get rid of dead animal smell?
A: Yes, but you need to remove the dead animal or you will need to keep applying it.

I bought The Sexy Brutale years ago and didn't get around to playing it until tonight. I lasted only one rewind past the intro. If you're going to do a time-loop game, then let the player have control over when to reset the loop.

Actually, better would be to not do a time-loop game at all.

I was singing this to myself all afternoon as I worked (probably bc I was cleaning house while wearing pajama pants) so I might as well link it. This is a song Frank wrote to make fun of his touring band of that era, whom he thought were boring during downtime.

House is clean. This is what the other person in the household was doing.
Butterflied turkey and made pecan bars, cranberry/raspberry sauce, cornbread dressing, mushroom/leek filling for GF turnovers, labneh, & brown butter bourbon, which leaves us with ~8oz of bourbon-flavored brown butter for future baking deliciousness. Only hot pepper labneh left to do tonight. Phew.

The current US government's ongoing commitment to destroying the US tourism industry is of course not its worst feature morally, but it might be the weirdest.
The Interior Department has announced it will charge $100 per head for non-US residents to visit the most popular 11 national parks.

Stupid and self-defeating. Millions have visited those parks and left with with affection for America. No more, except those who can afford $400 per family per park.

Yeah, I try to talk about LLMs, because somebody using machine learning to pull out frequencies from a sound file they don't need is good, somebody using a slurry of All Music We Could Steal to create homophobic sea shanties about Joe Rogan is not.

Like the dogpiling of the flask guy that I saw? A _ton_ of it was writers. Do writers like "AI"? No! Should they? No! Because "AI" as applied to their world is the bullshit slop job-eater. Is that sort of application what the flask guy meant? Probably not! But who knows, he just said "AI".

perhaps we should come up with separate names for the vast array of disparate things currently called "AI" which would make it easier to clarify that some of them are good and some of them are bad (and none of them are "intelligence")
This is a stated vs revealed preference situation. news.gallup.com/poll/654905/...

OK I have run out of sites and social media to check (which is unsurprising because these days the daily list is, like, two places), and now I must devote the rest of my day to the problem of making this house fit for visitors.

Which may involve burning it down.

Scalzi™️ runs on dry cereal and Coke Zero. This is even more energy efficient than his previous solar powered functions, which didn’t pan out because he doesn’t go outside.
Well, yes, that's the problem. It wouldn't be helping, it would just be making more work for me because I would have to clean up its prose. I want to write my own stuff, not edit what an LLM puts out. Plus I am more energy efficient.
I anticipate that if you asked an AI to help you write anything, the quality would be LESS than if you just did it yourself.

Ooh, Thanksgiving pie arguments? OK, sure, I'll do Thanksgiving pie arguments.

1. It is very difficult to make an apple pie that isn't boring.
2. Sweet potato pie is what pumpkin pie wishes it tasted like.
3. Your pecan pie needs more pecans. No, no, more pecans. MORE. And a splash of bourbon.

For the four of you here who do follow my peculiar stories, I think you should know that in a very uncharacteristic fit of planning, I have actually laid out a SCHEDULE of releases next year -- yes, all of next year, I should live so long. And I'm basically committed to working a month ahead.
