The elimination of USAID is a moral atrocity and all involved made a choice to enable, and then lie about, ending the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in the world.

Trump’s awful but it’s important to note he’d be different and potentially less harmful kinds of awful if he weren’t advised and manipulated by some of the most evil people in American history.

For the record, the local police had to arrive to free the girl from … the federal police.

This is horrific. It’s undeniable that we will need trials for ICE officials and officers after all this.

“Leominster police arrived at the scene, recovered the child and returned her to the family.”

they don't have the capacity to compel obedience by violence.

the only lever by which they can obtain obedience is fear.

I am just going to keep posting that the TX governor recently pardoned a political murderer.

The dude texted "I'm going to shoot protestors", then went and shot a Black Lives Matter protester. He was convicted in a jury trial.

Hard to find a more blatant example of celebrating political violence.
Gov. Greg Abbott pardons Daniel Perry, veteran who killed police brutality protester in 2020
A Travis County jury sentenced Perry to 25 years in prison last year, prompting Abbott to ask the state parole board to review his case.

No, no. I'm not saying that about Charlie Kirk. Charlie Kirk said that about George Floyd.

Just in case anyone's interested in what he thought was fair to say about someone who was killed on camera.

Yeah, there's already enough to see this will be a deep rabbit hole of brainrot, irony, and nihilism. We'll undoubtedly learn he spent time on 4chan and so forth, but this person is not going to have what the rest of us would consider a coherent political ideology.
There are very, VERY few people who are equipped to talk about this shooter correctly given the brainrot written on the shell casing. You have to understand so much of online culture to get it and also understand how that culture is both connected to and separate from real world ideological spaces

Kirk’s murder is awful and ominous for this country. But no, we don’t need to honor him or “continue his work.”

This. No line on a map or piece of cloth flown by bitter old men should come before feeding children and breaking bread in peace around a common table. The world is big enough for all of us if we let got of hostility and embrace common humanity.
As I just said on CNN, my father's parents were Nakba survivors. I don't want Israeli children to live in fear and I don't want Palestinian children to starve to death. There is nothing anyone could do to make me put nationalistic talking points above basic human rights.

imo the answer is pretty clearly no, which is why I roll my eyes at all the breathless predictions of “AGI” within the next couple of years

maybe someday we will build something that can “think” like a person but it won’t be an LLM
Honestly I've often questioned whether training a machine to predict the next word is really the right approach to get to a machine that can "think"

The connections between the various data inside an LLM is entirely based on patterns, not any kind of logic.
this is such a perfect illustration of the fundamental disconnect between what LLMs are and how they are sold and how people interact with them

it’s not a person, it does not “know” things, it does not remember and learn from things the way a person does

it is predicting what someone might say
