RIP

"'you ever go to one of those "mainstream" shows, they bring joy to a lot of people with songs. if there’s a wrong way to do that then god help us all.'

I lingered on those words, and I still do. Snider was just after the joy of it all – it’s part of what made his music resonate."

Watched the movie 48 Hrs. for the first time. It was fine. Not much of a story but it brings a rough and dirty aesthetic that I enjoyed.

Walter Hill was really cooking in the mid-70s and early-80s. Seems like no one really talks about him as an auteur.or anything, but I think he's underrated.

Oh man, this hurts so bad.

Due to some health issues, I don't listen to music as much as I'd like, but Todd Snider is often what's playing in my head. His music is so honest and funny and engaging. He had the storyteller's gift for conveying bone-deep truths in a thoughtful, often playful, manner.
RIP to Todd Snider, arguably the greatest American songwriter of the last 30 years.

If you’ve never heard of him, listen to this track written from the perspective of a dude in Mike Tyson’s entourage. Sheer perfection.

Also dice, pencils, and character sheets.

Oh, you thought we were meeting here for an interview? Nice try. Sir Tad Rumplebottom's son has been kidnapped by gnolls and there's a 1000 gp reward for his safe return to Turnip Manor.

I'd love to see Bluesky go to a decentralized model for issuing suspensions and bans. Something like a trial by jury of peers or the Wikipedia model for moderation.

That would allow for flexibility in the case of obvious jokes (more leniency) or coded threats (less leniency).
Bluesky says it suspended author Sarah Kendzior because she was "expressing a desire to shoot the author of an article."

But there's more to the story:
Bluesky Is Clearly Not a Johnny Cash Fan
A user was banned for making a Johnny Cash reference. Where's the dividing line between serious threat and jokey pop culture reference?

I know we're way past anything approaching normalcy or propriety these days, but this is absolutely an impeachable offense by the attorney general and FBI director.
My god (sorry I’m late on a bunch of this stuff. But wow!)

According to this NYT report, the head of the FBI and the Attorney General are holding meetings *in the Situation Room* with GOP lawmakers they are trying to pressure to rescind their votes to release the Epstein info. This is madness.

Typical BlueSky purity test
If i were the president of the united states i simply wouldn't have spent 50-60 years of my life raping and molesting a wide variety of innocent victims including children and then run for office promising to expose pedophiles and then call it a hoax once elected

Trump is never going to run for election again, and his brand of narcissistic magic works only when he's literally on the ballot. So it makes sense that some GOPers are looking for an offramp, and the Epstein scandal is perfect for that.

Overly bureaucratic and humorless moderation, followed by extremely delayed communication. Sounds about right. Crisis averted.
The account owner of @sarahkendzior.bsky.social was suspended for 72 hours for expressing a desire to shoot the author of an article. The post, made 11/10, stated: "I want to shoot the author of this article just to watch him die." 1/2

This thread and its replies are a good reminder of how broken our healthcare system is in the US.

Not that we need a reminder.

Oh shit now I'm really sad.
in Paris, I had to see a same-day doctor & I found one. was gravely warned that, as a foreigner, I’d have to pay 32 euros & I laughed & laughed

a friend there said “make sure you get X kind of doctor, not Y, because the Y kind charges 74 WHOLE EUROS” & once again I bitterly, bitterly laughed 😭
My ACA current plan is going from $385/mo to $821/mo.

Really professional job here. Nice trifecta:

✅ Showing palpable disdain for users (unless they're powerful)

✅ Making policy up on the fly

✅ Spewing out corporate word salad
We usually do that in response to media requests once they hit that threshold. I’ll try not to weigh in here, since that’s still details of an individual case. An interesting topic for a separate write up though, without discussing case specifics.

I'm sure that no Mississippians on SNAP live in food deserts where their best option is Dollar General, a store known for their abundant healthy, fresh, non-sugary food options.
Gov. Tate Reeves aims to ban Mississippi SNAP recipients from buying unhealthy foods in a bid to woo U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as the State seeks federal funding for a rural health-care program.

I have no opinions on this suspension, but @adgwatches.bsky.social is one of my favorite posters and I might quit this place if she gets fed up and leaves.

Get your shit together, @moderation.bsky.app.
I need to know why @bsky.app has suspended Sarah Kendzior. I would like anyone, @aaron.bsky.team or @pfrazee.com or anyone at @support.bsky.team or @moderation.bsky.app can answer this question but I need to know. If it’s a non-answer I’m going to draw conclusions. We all know her work. Explain.
