This 2nd paragraph hit hard. When I found out my FIL died, my best friend & I had just finished a literal marathon. When I told my wife, who had spent the morning ignoring calls from her mom, she broke down. My friend said a variation of "he died doing what he loved" that was, uh, not well received.
