The BBC should be "impartial", but that doesn't mean refusing to make judgments.

A jury or a football referee should be "impartial": they should not be "partial", or prejudiced, to one side or other.

But that doesn't excuse them from making decisions. It's why we trust them to do so.

Have you ever looked at a new stadium and wondered... what's she gonna look like with a chimney on her?

Sometimes I feel like I'm doing well in Duolingo. But I just realised that, in the language I learned at school, I'm on a unit where I argue with a roommate about disagreements regarding the living situation. On the language I've "learned" primarily on Duo I just translated "do you eat bread?"

An excellent no nonsense statement from the Women's Institute.
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
The Women's Institute was founded on democratic ideals over 100 years ago and this commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion is still central to our ethos today.

Saw someone upbraiding someone else for having a hobby while the world is on fire, and, my friends:

1. The world is ever on fire, this is today's conflagration;

2. If you don't find time for rest and joy the fire will consume you;

3. Don't let people shame you for being an entire human.

People wonder why the BBC only showed Live Aid on BBC2, but what nobody remembers now is that there was an all-day concert on BBC1 raising money to make the famine much worse, for balance.

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

While I hate to see this happen to a dear friend, I do think it's important to recognise this reality.
It's #MeAwarenessDay #WorldMEDay and I have nothing more eloquent to say than it fucking sucks and I hate it and it's hard to keep going a lot of the time

This is bullshit. You can say there are costs, you can even claim the costs outweigh the benefits. But to say that immigration has caused incalculable damage is not just hugely offensive to millions of people and their families, but simply empirically demonstrably wrong
If you thought the PM’s speech was punchy, his foreword to the immigration white paper says high net migration has done “incalculable damage” to the country.

That is a serious shift in tone for a Labour government/party.

The British Medical Association Resident Doctors are the backbone of the NHS, they look after us all in hospital.

They passed this motion at their conference which pulls the “supreme” court judgement to pieces.

They call it

“scientifically illiterate”
and
“biologically nonsensical”

I'm confident that our future society will look back on current transphobic attitudes and laws the way our current society views the widespread homophobia of the past.
The introduction of Section 28 marked the peak of homophobic attitudes in the UK.
For the years it was law, the belief that homosexuality was wrong diminished and acceptance grew.
We lost the battle to halt Section 28 but it armed us well to win the war.
Laws can’t crush us.
Keep hope alive. 💜

If you’re on #DisabilityBenefits, it’s ok to have hobbies, holidays, food deliveries, and so on. Benefits exist so disabled people can live safely, independently, with quality of life. Don’t let government rhetoric make you feel guilty for existing.

As Sussex points out in the piece, this ruling means that if a university has a policy against racist speech on campus — which most - if not all - do!!! — then they would also be liable for a big fine on “free speech grounds”
