It's one of the many reasons I describe myself as a 'historian of war' rather than a military historian. Because you cannot understand war, particularly not the 20th century ones, without also recognising that they exist beyond just the front lines and all aspects of it have to be studied.

Military history devoid of social, cultural, diplomatic, literary etc forms of history is essentially meaningless. Knowing what soldiers and armies did in battle without understanding why they did them, the cultures that produced them, or the industries that supported them is pointless.

Targeting a religious gathering because you believe that all Jewish people are responsible for the actions of the state of Israel is center-mass antisemitism.
