one takeaway from the grok noncon porn thing is that much of the media just isn't interested in an issue they can't pretend has two sides or that doesn't give them an opportunity to shit on the left. Also it would be uncomfortable to justify remaining on twitter after acknowledging it

one thing that receives almost no attention is that the only reason he ran for president again is because he had to to avoid prosecution for a litany of crimes, the whole plan was: 1). Take shelter in SCOTUS-granted immunity. 2). Loot.
trump is the president in the sense that he holds the office but he very clearly isn't the president in the sense that he has basically relieved himself of its duties
Trump’s echo chamber:

No rallies or contact with supporters

Right-wing media

Dinners with rich donors and billionaires

If you don’t believe that Trump’s authoritarianism can be defeated, look at how scared MAGA is of chalk:
FHP also arrested a man at a crosswalk near Pulse in Orlando last night. The bizarre story of the arrest is related below by Fox35 Orlando.

This is so pitifully embarrassing for the state.

Speaker Johnson not seating the newly elected Democratic majority has been the plan since 2024, they got lucky and didn’t need it this January but absolutely have a plan to delay and obstruct the next Congress. I think it ultimately requires a SCOTUS decision, stalling the House until at least June
He'll likely try this, but I think the real danger comes after the 2026 midterms.

Sure, they'll try to sway them with gerrymandering and "emergencies" that shut down polling places in key Democratic areas. But if Dems make real gains the current GOP majority can cry fraud and refuse to seat them.
At some point Trump is going to call for the removal from congress of dozens of Democrats, all of them accused of mortgage fraud, and Corporate Media will obsess over details of the accusations rather than just calling it a partisan purge and fascist consolidation of power. Stop taking the bait.

Another possible explanation: millions of dumb, selfish people were deliberately lied to by a billionaire-funded right-wing propaganda apparatus with the explicit goal of enraging them & hurting the Dem administration.

Dumb, selfish people believed lies. Doesn't that ring a little more true?

Saving this to watch how the rhetoric evolves by 2028; I expect “they are going to have to testify under oath” will come around to the reality these folks will all need to be arrested and jailed first.
Ossoff: "There is at some point is going to be a reckoning for all of this. These folks who are working at these private prison companies who are on Kristi Noem's staff right now, they are at some point going to have to testify under oath about what is happening in the facilities they're running."

Trump is a bigoted fascist operating at a third-grade reading level whose policies are completely incoherent. He believes in absolutely nothing but attention, wealth and power.

the closest the NYT can get to explaining this to readers is to proclaim "this isn't your grandpa's republican party"

Understanding this is a good litmus test for the 2028 Democratic primary
the thing everyone is going to have to accept is that the post-trump period, whenever it comes, will not and cannot be a project of national unity, it must be a project of partisan project of renewal, in the same way that reconstruction and the new deal were partisan projects of renewal.

Let this be Schumer’s swan song. Even if Democrats pull off winning a majority next year, we have to find a new leader. The Senate caucus isn’t short on younger, better options: Chris Murphy, Cory Booker, Tammy Baldwin, Amy Klobuchar, Chris Van Hollen, Ben Ray Lujan all have experience in leadership
I've got no idea how 2026 will turn out. But, Schumer locking in both Roy Cooper and Sherrod Brown by August 2025 is the sort of recruitment New York sports fans could only dream of from the local teams.
Sherrod Brown will run for the Senate in 2026. #OHSen

Just to state the obvious: I do not believe that a political movement trying to re-legalize child labor, deny schoolkids free lunches, lower the age of sexual consent, slash funding for child care & elementary education, and slash Medicaid genuinely gives a shit about the welfare of children.

One of the things about JD Vance is that he is completely 100% aware that what he is doing is evil and has made a deliberate, conscious choice to do evil to get power. He’s not self-deluded or dumb. He hasn’t drunk Kool-Aid. He’s decided to do evil for power.
