Ugh. To those of you citing Charlie Kirk’s hypocrisy and reprehensible views as an implied justification for his murder, stop and think: do you really think people should get the death penalty for hypocrisy? Or for having stupid, despicable opinions? Democracy doesn’t work if we can’t speak freely.

The order of science:

1.) Discover there’s a deadly problem
2.) Work for years to solve it
3.) The problem may not be gone forever, but we’ve won
4.) People forget the deadly problem actually existed
5.) People decide this must mean the science to solve it was a hoax
6.) The deadly problem returns
Yeah. In 2013 I door-to-door canvass to get my city to fluoridate the water. Conversations went like this:

Me: I used to be an environmental chemist.
Them: 😀
Me: I used to test drinking and wastewater.
Them: So you’re against fluoride?
Me: No, I support it!
Them: 😡 (woo jibberish)

This is about over-estimates of AI risk, not all AI tasks, but it gets into a lot of relevant issues in forecasting AI progress.

We know too well the devastating consequences of such action—families torn apart, livelihoods destroyed, and multigenerational trauma inflicted on a community for decades.

This isn't what this account will be posting more of, but it's important to say something:

Throw everyone involved with the illegal deportations into jail, we have abundant evidence of their crimes

The longer we allow this to continue the further we will sink into darkness

Well, I am. We are. We will.

This story should dominate the news cycle for a while, but that won't happen on its own.

Democrats have got to keep asking the big questions:

-- Why were they making war plans on a third-party app?
-- What other plans have been mishandled this way?
-- What vulnerabilities are exposed in all this?

I must say this as clearly as possible: if you have, in the last ten years, thought "I just don't get tech" or that you're "getting old" or "you're not technical," you are the victim - so much of the tech industry is now oriented around making you do stuff rather than doing stuff for you.
I was seriously relieved when I started listening to your podcast and realized my increasing levels of frustration with modern tech are not because I'm getting older (I'm only 40 for gods's sake!) but because everything is actively getting worse. 🫠

the joke is that everyone on this website is exactly 38 years old. I am 38 years old. And I'm a little confounded about why I keep seeing "young men today are exposed to more homophobia and misogyny than any previous generation" from people who can remember the 1990s and 2000s.

White men of all ages continue to be the reason this country sucks
Based on the information we have now, young white men were more likely to support Harris than any other age group.

Man-O-Sphere garbage is clearly a problem but Gen X white dudes are more right-wing and far more likely to vote.

It’s hard for me to cope with the fact you can absolutely act like this in public, have proved beyond doubt it’s not a bit but an indication of both deliberate malice and serious instability, and still make a serious bid to control the world’s largest arsenal of nuclear weapons.
Crazy this is just background noise!
