Okay. Indie brands. We have to talk.

That Harry Potter collab is a great way to ensure that if your little company survives the backlash, the customers you have left will be the kind of people who buy TERF shit out of spite or out of being completely checked out.

Sure, their money spends.

But.

You can see an early example of Guillermo del Toro's penchant for romances involving monsters in Hellboy, where the title character is depicted as loving Selma Blair despite her social media

The term "slop" is starting to be used for anything that is tacky or of poor quality and I would really like it to be restricted to AI. I would rather have something tacky and authentic than AI slop made from 100 fine art works thrown into a digital blender.

#wacthed A CHINESE GHOST STORY (1987)

A hapless tax collector finds himself in a haunted temple where he encounters zombies, demons, a grumpy Taoist swordsman, and the most beautiful ghost in movie history.

My favorite Hong Kong movie of the 1980s. Pure magic.

A different vibe than Baby Assassins but it works really well. Cool story with a great chemistry between the characters.

Ghost Killer is enjoyable, and the fight scenes are amazing. As expected from Kensuke Sonomura who is also the director here.

I love when they just do that instead of using CGI. I love when it's a work of craftsmanship instead of being, you know, slop.
Guillermo del Toro refused to use VFX for the ship in 'Frankenstein' so they built one from scratch ⚓️

"The ship is a character ... I didn't want the audience to go, 'Oh, this is all digital' ... once you introduce that, it's like a license for people not to believe things"

the “trad are punk” people are so fucking funny because they’re so clearly desperate to co-opt language to a point where they will just be like “yeah i’m co-opting this language”

Watched carnival of souls last night as part of my goal to use all my kanopy credits each month, and the real horror of that movie is that apparently if you're autistic and you end up with psychosis or delusions you'll lose your job and your housing and be left to die because you're weird and freaky

My brother directed Candyman (the 1992 movie), and I was invited to the UK premiere. I was so terrified that I slipped out after 30 minutes. Unfortunately, I ran into my brother in the foyer, who frogmarched me back inside. But then very sweetly gave me a whispered countdown for all the jump scares.

The Star Trek thing (see previous RTs) pisses me off not just bc it's obviously wrong but bc it's based on a deep misunderstanding of Trek, the least macho SFF franchise in which everyone abandons greed and aggression in favor of problem solving while wearing bright primary colors

repeat after me:

I cannot create a decent likeness of myself in the FromSoft character creator.

My character's visage will be obscured by a helmet, mask, or hood.

I will not waste my time trying to recreate myself in the FromSoft character creator.

Chuck Dixon created Bane. I don't bring this up to argue that creating that character somehow negates his current behavior, but to talk about a problem very prevalent in comics. And that is bigoted people making bank off the very marginalized groups they later demonize and discredit.
Fuck Chuck Dixon.
