This is another semi-regular reminder that hot people mask (I mean, look at @malyndae.bsky.social 😍) because masking is love and resistance and anti-fascist. Masking is community care, and community care is radical in this age. Be hot. Wear a mask.
Yeah except your colleagues are NOT fucking fighting, they're capitulating. We can't fight when our front line unilaterally disarms and just fucks off to brunch instead.
But there are real dangers out there that must be fought; and energy spent fighting each other is energy lost to that bigger fight.

About 19.3 seconds after Trump signs the CR we’ll start getting DSCC texts and emails saying, “People are losing health insurance! Can you rush $10 before midnight to show Trump we won’t stand for it????????!!!!!!”
I’m not surprised, but I still feel physical ill over the betrayal. They’re cowards

Went to repost this and then depressingly saw it was from 8 months ago. This is still true, and I am now convinced it will remain true until there are successful primary challenges nationwide to the "roll over and play dead" Dems.
American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

Yeah, I'm sorry, but you do not keep the government shut for more than a month and then NOT get a deal on the main item you have been messaging on without completely shifting the blame dynamic.
Major concession from Democrats here is enhanced ACA funds aren’t extended. Preserving them was Dems’ central demand in this fight. They secured a promise of a vote (which Thune has been offering for weeks), but that could still fail. Even if it passes, Johnson has made no promise of a House vote.
Tentative Senate deal to end shutdown, multiple sources tell me & @frankthorp.bsky.social:
—CR through Jan 30
—Approps minibus
—Fully funds SNAP
—Reverses Trump’s shutdown RIFs
—Promise of Senate vote on ACA subsidies by Dec second week (details/outcome uncertain)
—Led by King/Shaheen/Hassan

I just called @schumer.senate.gov and left a message. Can you? 202-224-6542
Can you call Chuck Schumer right now? No matter where you live, can you take a few minutes and tell Schumer that if Senate Democrats cave you will not support Senate Dems as long as he is leader?

Shutting down the government is a big deal. People have been hurt in big ways as a result of the decision. To have that suffering be for nothing—to re-open the government without actually having protected people’s health insurance and economic well-being—is unconscionable.

I'm hearing the same thing. Dems are nearing a surrender. I'm shocked. Largest protest in history + best election night in years + polling showing we're kicking their ass in public opinion. And now Dems may cave.
It ain't over til it's over, so please do call if you've got a Dem senator.

Sounds like the squishes in the senate caucus are ready to pull the plug with no ACA changes. This is real. If you want to register your opinion you shld call yr senator in the next hour. They not only want to reopen w/nothing. They want cover from their colleagues who still want to hold out.

ableism and eugenics are rampant in immigration policies globally. New Zealand and Canada, off the top of my head, state they'll deny entry to certain immigrants based on their "excessive demand" on public health services
"Foreigners seeking visas to live in the U.S. might be rejected if they have certain medical conditions, including diabetes or obesity, under a Thursday directive from the Trump administration."

When you become disabled there’s a few things you notice right away:
Ableism is everywhere.
People will abandon you. Even those you were certain would stick by you.
Just because something is illegal or against human rights code doesn’t mean it’s not happening ALL the time

That’s really the crux of it.
Disability is a minority group you can join anytime.
Most people will experience disability in their lifetime
Yet discriminating against us is not only common it’s socially acceptable.

It is very clear the gutting of Teen Vogue is about silencing their excellent political coverage. Corporations want you uninformed and shut off from meaningful journalism. And they’re staggeringly successful at it so far.
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.
certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.
