This is another semi-regular reminder that hot people mask (I mean, look at @malyndae.bsky.social 😍) because masking is love and resistance and anti-fascist. Masking is community care, and community care is radical in this age. Be hot. Wear a mask.

Covid-19 Is Still Killing a Disturbing Number of Americans, Study Finds
Between 2022 and 2024, covid-19 killed roughly 100,000 Americans annually, new research by CDC scientists shows.

It doesn’t take a fucking genius to know that the child mortality rate in the U.S. is going to rise as a result of this. This is eugenics. I almost died of chickenpox as a kid because of my (then undiagnosed) immunodeficiency. They want to kill off vulnerable children like me.
Trump: "Effective today, America will no longer require 72 'jabs' for our beautiful, healthy children. We are moving to a far more reasonable Schedule, where all children will only be recommended to receive Vaccinations for 11 of the most serious and dangerous diseases."

Antivaxxers like RFK Jr love to cherry pick policies from countries like Denmark so they can falsely justify reducing vaccines in the US, while ignoring context.

If they really wanted to learn effective health policy from Denmark, they would be pushing for universal single-payer healthcare.

WH sources say Venezuela's opposition leader committed the "ultimate sin": She accepted the Nobel Peace prize.

“If she had turned it down and said, ‘I can’t accept it because it’s Donald Trump’s,’ she’d be the president of Venezuela today,” one said.

The problem is that for the last 30+ years, Democratic politicians have been fundamentally more scared of the GOP base than the Democratic base. We need to make them scared of us so that it’s more personally costly to them to go against us than to appease the mythical center.
This is the kind of candy ass bullshit that shows the American people that most elected democrats suffer from a terminal lack of spine.

Which means it’s unfortunately up to us to yell at them enough that they find one. The congressional switchboard is 202-224-3121. You know what to do.
At a minimum, Congress must be fully and transparently briefed and then take appropriate action.

The only fucking question that matters is what are you going to do to fucking stop him
President Trump’s actions today with Venezuela raise more questions than answers. Is America going to be involved in running and stabilizing Venezuela? Today's actions raise many questions about the stability of the region and our policy towards South America.

This doesn’t have to keep happening. Wear a well-fitting N95, KN95, or KF94 and get your families to wear them, too. They’re remarkable, noninvasive technology that for around a buck can dramatically reduce your chance of getting sick. My immune system is garbage and I haven’t been ill since 2019.

Not to be all “back in my day”, but every time I watch an old movie and they say “mind if I smoke?” I instantly flash back to a PSA on buses in the 90s. And I feel like we need this kind of blunt messaging on public health stuff.

It WORKED. It’s still in my head 30 years later.

it certainly does not mean I secretly like the roaches and want them to carry on infesting my house

if I were happy with the roaches infesting my house I wouldn’t be mad at my shitty exterminator

if I hire an exterminator to handle a roach infestation and he instead presents me with a list of reasons he is incapable of doing so while asking for more money so that he can maybe handle it later, I am not angrier at the roaches, I am in the market for a better exterminator

the reason people sometimes act madder at democrats than republicans when republicans do impossibly evil shit is the same reason why, if you hired an exterminator to handle a roach infestation and he showed up to feed and play with them instead, your first instinct wouldn’t be to yell at the roaches

If we had a functional Democratic Party we’d be launching a coordinated messaging effort to build support for impeachment with organizers and vols making persuasion calls that tie in with massive ad buys and unified, no-holds-barred messaging by electeds in front of every camera in the nation

How are voters meant to understand how serious things are if in lieu of shouting fire AND going into building with hoses, you're simply posting fire safety suggestions on social media?
Not introducing articles of impeachment is a message that Trump hasn't committed impeachable offenses.

This is leadership and I would love it if more democrats knew that
So @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social said in a press conference this morning that he called Trump directly to tell him he opposed his actions in Venezuela and his opposition to regime change.

Agreed. Should the United States be the Unilateral World Police? If the answer is "no," this needs a better justification than "he's bad" or "his election was tainted."

(If the answer is "yes," then there's a huge list of far more dangerous leaders we are inexcusably leaving in power.)
People are going to try and lure you into debates about whether Maduro was a good guy or not and the thing is, it doesn’t matter for the purposes of discussing whether violent kidnappings and extrajudicial murders by the US government are ok. No, they aren’t! End of convo.

Despite what we are often told, this line from Mamdani’s inauguration speech is what true pragmatism actually looks like:

“Beginning today, we will govern expansively and audaciously. We may not always succeed. But never will we be accused of lacking the courage to try.”

This is just fucking Medicare for all you numpty
To each, the healthcare they need, from each , an amount they can afford to pay

Have taxpayers guarantee, at Medicare rates, any amount a patient can’t afford. Allow the patient to repay on a means tested basis. No insurance premiums. No copay’s or coinsurance.
Let’s cut to the chase. Say you’re not a billionaire. What’s the best way to afford healthcare in the US right now? What would you do?

Fun fact, you could still be living the not-getting-sick life going into 2026 if you started masking again. My immune system is super fucked but I haven’t been sick since 2019.
When we were wearing masks, I not only didn’t get COVID, I didn’t get sick at all for well over a year iirc.
“having to mask made me go fash” is so common and it’s just baffling

I mean, yes, it was annoying to wear one all the time? it also wasn’t that big a deal? if, today, someone asks me to put a mask on I go “ok” and put one on

and yet so many people treat it as a life-ruining imposition
