Of course. Of course the miracle of AI is a mechanical Turk. Not just stealing art. Humans even work the *boring* AI from inside. And it’s a colonial monster too, exploiting poor overseas labour. Oh, AI, is there nothing you can’t enshittify? TW: dark as fuck.

I'm sorry, but if I'm a freaking US Senator and I make calculations about how to vote based on whether the supporters of the leader of my party might kill me or my family, then I'd probably do some soul searching about the party I've chosen.

Once at a conference I mentioned knowing your audience and writing with them in mind. A guy in the audience countered with "but shouldn't we be writing for everyone, the widest audience possible?"

Pal, I couldn't get my own grandmother to read my books, but you think universal appeal is possible?
Whew this

This also reminds me -- I saw someone the other day saying their 'goal' was for their stories to have 'universal appeal' and I recoiled from the monitor like there was a giant hornet on it

And then I was like "OHHHHHH THAT'S WHAT I'M DOING WRONG"

I don't want my stories to have that

NY Gov. Kathy Hochul just signed into law a bill banning captive audience meetings.

As of today, bosses in NYS cannot make employees attend meetings with those high-paid consultants who come and tell you how scary unions are 👻 Go attend your union meeting instead 😉

Even after more than a decade of Uber, people don’t seem to get that the venture capitalists only subsidize the “disruptive” tech long enough to throw the displaced workers into permanent precarity, then they raise prices after destroying the overall market. Cab driver suicides are the strategy.
At an end, your rule is. And not short enough, it was.
