But as I travel’d hither through the land,
I find the people strangely fantasied,
Possess’d with rumors, full of idle dreams,
Not knowing what they fear, but full of fear.

Until Reagan and Friedman ruined it the goal of business was to grow until your customers were happy and you were making a consistent profit then do your best to maintain that, before slashing the top marginal tax rate made the goal perpetual growth until it's scrapped for parts by a competitor.
Bluesky has a growth problem

Bluesky has hit 38M monthly users, up 8M since March

Once adding 5M users per month, it’s now slowed to 1.6M. A 60% drop

But post volume is falling—more users, less activity

It risks becoming a ghost town with a loyal but shrinking core

Bluesky Reaches 38 Million Users, Though Post Volume is Declining
Bluesky’s growth momentum has slowed, but it is still growing.

I'd just like to point out how weird it is that places with hundreds or even thousands of reporters — the NYT, WaPo, CBS, NBC, AP, etc. — are all getting pummeled on every major story by the dozen computerboys at Wired. To fumble the bag this consistently is, at some point, cowardice and a choice.

NEW: Metadata from the “raw” Epstein prison video shows approximately 2 minutes and 53 seconds were removed from one of two stitched-together clips. The cut starts right at the “missing minute.”

Same. Every time.
I watch the news a couple times a month, but the second there is even an inkling that I am going to be subjected to Trump‘s voice, I turn it off…

I absolutely cannot bear to hear his lies or watch his stupid mouth or listen to his 3rd grade words.

apart from its inherent qualities as a comic strip, I really appreciate that Watterson resisted the urge to franchise and merchandise C&H. There's no animated movie, no tv show, no line of toys, no ipad game.

it exists in its entirety as a comic strip written and drawn entirely by one man.
Happy birthday to Bill Watterson, the creator of Calvin and Hobbes! Born on July 5, 1958.

Again, I’d like to encourage the people who think it’s a good idea to embrace a cruel and capricious dictatorship, while making it clear no legal or legislative authority can stop them from ruining ordinary people’s lives, to keep on reading to see what usually happens next.

yes it’s a big mystery why people who think empathy is evil don’t become therapists

Like I've said before, if you have any doubts about climate change, just go to a super-boring insurance conference and listen to the super-boring panels where they dryly talk about the growing threat of disasters so catastrophic and unpredictable in scope they simply cannot be insured at any price.
Wild how the Fed chair saying that *entire regions of the United States* won’t be able to get a mortgage in the next decade barely registered as a news event

His voice has been digitally re-created "using licensed audio from his estate."

Which reminds me of something the real Welles once said: "I hate almost everything in the modern world.”
