Something I see repeatedly in the ActivityPub community & Fediverse, and with growing regularity in the ATmosphere is people pretending or thinking that they can control data once it has left their server/device.

You can definitely ask nicely that they do certain things...

There's a lot to look forward to at the #Fediverse track at #SFSCon but @saskiakezia.com and @michaelfoster.bsky.social talk on growing the open social web, in the context of liberalism's crisis.

We need to start creating some critical mass on the Fediverse to move there and avoid enshittification. I follow some communities on LemmyNSFW but it's still very little content.

We regularly see read scope being asked for from apps too.

Ich will nicht auf X und den Zuckerberg-Plattformen sein. Mit relativ vielen mir wichtigen Leuten, die ich teils seit Jahren kenne, die es aber bisher nicht nach Bluesky oder ins Fediverse schaffen, kann ich mich dort vernetzen. Es ist eine Art "kleineres Übel"/Kompromiss für mich trotz Microsoft.
