As the clocks go back, please remember to plan for your bike lights to be ready for service tomorrow evening.
As always, our thoughts on the wider topic of bike lights are here: www.haveringcyclists.org/our-guide-to...

Cardiff is the first UK city to approve higher parking charges for larger, more-polluting vehicles like SUVs.

SUVs make up over 60% of new cars sold in the UK, but are 14% more likely to kill a pedestrian or cyclist and 77% more likely to kill a child.

So you are starting a family and settling down. Would you move to an area with 20mph limits that gave your children safer streets, lower noise and opportunities to walk or cycle to school, or demand that you drive at speeds that are not survivable for vulnerable road users.

In Wales, Cornwall, Edinburgh, London and so many places when most 30mph roads were changed to 20mph, people injured or killed by motor vehicles reduced by 20%+. With minimal change to journey times and £2bn saving in insurance costs it's a huge win. bit.ly/4gIBPlJ

The council's director's decision comments that an exemption to the banned turn can be considered - that's not an actual decision.

On the good news front, there is apparently a cycle track scheme between Upper Brentwood Road and the Ring Road being designed - this could be transformational!

*** Council Decision ***

The proposed zebra crossing on Pettits Lane by Main Road and the banned right turn into Errol Road has been approved.

With our friends at @cyclehavering.bsky.social we objected to the proposals.

We are lucky enough to still have 3 bike shops left in Havering so this is just a reminder that if we want our precious local bike shops to be there when we need them, we have to use them.

As always, our list of shops is shown here on our website: www.haveringcyclists.org/cycle-shops-...

Welsh people and government at national and local level should be very proud of their record in reducing urban/village road injuries and fatalities by 25% in the last 2 years by implementing the national default 20mph limit. Well done Wales, saving life and lives. bit.ly/4ppl030
