Beth and Rip carried that damn show. It’s also why Stack and Mary worked. They are equally yoked in their nonsense and they followed each other into a damned mortality.
One thing I love about Rip from Yellowstone is that not only is he a bad man, he's a bad man with a deep, sincere, genuinely loving attachment to a terrible woman. These characters aren't morally grey, they're just awful people, but I enjoy watching their relationship.

This also extends to window shopping. No one knows the stores in their town anymore (quick, name a place you can get a belt or an electric mixer from that isn’t a big box store)

The death of browsing is part of the reason art is the way it is now. Our opinions are largely fed to us by algorithms. Spending a spare 15 minutes wandering around a bookstore or comic shop or video rental place was how you found stuff you wouldn't ordinarily pick up and thereby expanded your taste
Bookselling is like the most "people go to the store and buy what looks cool to them without a particular agenda" type business left, and your purchases have a huge influence on what is ordered, what is displayed, and what is recommended.

Mafia/gang stories exist within the framework of a politically corrupt system. So bad man behavior can often times be restorative street justice. But notice how in those communities if done right, actual abusers are punished. I need yall to read Demon’s Dream which actually nails this.
I genuinely wonder if some of these authors have even watched The Godfather or Casino, listened to a podcast, anything. So many of the mob guys that are still around have YouTube channels lololol
Sometimes I think about how violent, sex negative, and weirdly vanilla dark romance is. I also wish I could explain proper gang/mafia related codes of ethics vs an MMC who is just violent and emotionally abusive. Loving a bad man is different than he’s not bad because I love him.

This book has been so soothing. I have probably learned more about the foreign policies that shape the world just in the first three chapters than I have in at least the last 15 years of news media. 🙃 It's helped clarify a lot of the absolutely batshit nonsense of the current timeline. COMFORT READ

This entire thread is so sobering and just breaks my heart as a former TA and academic.
An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.
