Today’s Labour Budget is about fairness. Our Labour values in practice.

Lifting nearly half a million children out of poverty paid for by a gambling levy, a tax on homes worth £2m, and closing tax loopholes.

We are Labour and we make different choices.
Two-child benefit cap to be scrapped from next year
The policy, introduced under the Tories, means parents can only claim universal credit for their first two children.

The Chancellor has scrapped the two-child limit, benefitting more than half a million families.

In April 2025, out of families impacted by the limit:

- 6 in 10 had 3 children.
- 6 in 10 had at least one person in work.
- And 6 in 10 are receiving a health or disability benefit.

💼 The Chancellor made a number of bold, important interventions in the Budget today:

- Scrapping the two-child limit in Universal Credit
- Lowering energy bills
- Holding down transport costs
- Increasing the minimum wage

These will all assist families struggling to get by.

Great to see that a proper tax on online gambling has been included in the budget today. The Treasury Select Committee’s recent report proposed this as a way to encourage people to spend less time gambling on predatory slot algorithms, while also raising revenue. (1/2)
Stewart Kenny, one of the co-founders of Paddy Power, told me on the Treasury Select Committee today that he regrets many parts of the industry that he once led. (1/4)

On 1 May 2026, we will abolish Section 21 ‘no-fault’ evictions when we switch on the new private rented sector tenancy system.
