We've got to bring people together and show that by creating those decent paid jobs with decent wages, secure and available and affordable housing, public services that mean that everyone can get access to those opportunities, that's what a Labour government is about.
December 15, 2025 at 6:11 PM
I want all of us to focus on telling the story of this Labour government, of how we are rewiring the country so it works more in the interests of ordinary people with better pay, better jobs, better housing, better public services. If we don’t no-one else will.

Me on Today, yesterday.

2026 will be a big year. We in Labour must make and win the argument together that our progressive politics is changing peoples lives for the better. We must stay united, beat the politics of division and hate and overcome the challenges ahead.

I was at the East Manchester sorting office this morning catching up with our hard working posties.

This is such a busy time of year for them, with so many cards and parcels. It was great to be able to thank them for their hard work providing such a vital service.

On World AIDS Day, we remember those who have lost their lives and show our support for those living with HIV/AIDS.

The Government is committed to stopping new cases by 2030 and is launching a new £170m HIV Action Plan to meet this goal.

Why this Labour Budget addresses the failures of Tory (and Reform) economic ideology, as we deal with the root causes of poverty👇
By ending a cruel Tory social experiment, this budget clearly set out how Labour will fight the battle to renew Britain | Lucy Powell
The two-child benefit cap was a totem of 14 years of failed ideology. Now it is gone, says Lucy Powell MP, deputy leader of the Labour party

Today’s Labour Budget is about fairness. Our Labour values in practice.

Lifting nearly half a million children out of poverty paid for by a gambling levy, a tax on homes worth £2m, and closing tax loopholes.

We are Labour and we make different choices.
Two-child benefit cap to be scrapped from next year
The policy, introduced under the Tories, means parents can only claim universal credit for their first two children.
