We're going to need Nuremberg trials when this is over, yes, and to send a significant number of people currently in the federal government to prison. But we're going to need an unwavering commitment to ostracizing the supporters of it, as well. Never accept them again in polite society.

I see the phrase "competitive authoritarianism" thrown around a lot on here and while that may be descriptive of the moment we're in I cannot stress enough that you should never say that phrase to a normal voter and instead just say Trump's trying to be king.

Also Trump wasn't the "blip." *Dubya* was the first blip, and he did a hell of a lot of damage to America's international reputation. Trump 1 was just a progression along the same trend line. Trump 2 is the final confirmation.

I think he never wanted to be president. Well, he never understood that it was a hard job, and didn't ever really want to do any hard work. He just wants to absorb money, be surrounded by yes-men, and be exempt from arrest. If Musk says "I'll do the presidenting," Trump will kick back and let him.
I've been surprised by how happy Trump is to let Musk upstage him. I can't imagine the Trump of 2016 ever letting an advisor tower over him or make him look foolish the way Musk consistently does.
Something that’s very clear is that Trump is old and checked out. He wants to play the role of president but has zero interest in doing the job and is happy to outsource the real work to Musk, Vought and a crew of feral zealots.

They would not proclaim such executive powers for "the president" if they believed President AOC could, in 2029, decide to unilaterally cut the defense budget by hundreds of billions. They are working to neuter free and fair elections. You can bet on it.
The only way I can interpret the GOP's actions is that they are 100% certain they will never face another democratic election again.
