At the Eaton Fire (Altadena) fire community meeting, Kathryn Barger (county board of supervisors) says her goals for rebuilding (2000 structures destroyed!) are: no new density, and no changes in property tax assessments (Prop 13 says valuations only increase if a property is sold or redeveloped).

As somebody that came of age in the 13 Reasons Why era of mental health discourse where boys were off playing video games while girls were bullying each other in group chats there has definitely been a huge shift.

Two weeks ago, Artemy fell ill to sudden and severe kidney issues. He fought very hard, and for a time seemed to make a miraculous recovery, but yesterday his condition worsened, and continued to worsen after hospitalization. He passed an hour ago.

I’ll always love you, you fat idiot.

I'm sure the same people condemning the reaction to the CEO's murder will keep the same energy about Daniel Penny.

Things is, if I were gonna murder the CEO fo a health insurance company because he was a witness in an insider trading investigation or connected to his reportedly ugly divorce, I would also try to make it look like I was doing it instead because his company had denied a health care claim.

That's what running fast service in mixed traffic with local one does to your local service: either it crowds it out or, like in this graphic timetable example of the Adriatic line (probably the busiest mixed-traffic line in Italy), it lengthen local service's trip time considerably.

One map I have grown to hate: this one. Nostalgia for all the lost intercity trains often masks the fact that those services were dinosaurs. Some stats:
- In 1954, 70% of e/b trains on the PRR from PGH left PGH 10p-5a
- In 1960, 50% of the Santa Fe's Chicago-KC trains arrived in KC 10p-5a
