I enjoy the fact that there is a type of dog called a “lurcher” and it is not one tenth as ominous as the name suggests.

The courts have ruled multiple times that AI output isn't copyrightable because it has no author meaning:

1) AI writing is public domain. You don't own any of it.

2) You can't be sure that the writing in your piece isn't stolen, because authorship be damned, you are responsible for what you sell.
I can't understand how "writing is my dream job" and "ugh, can't the robot do it?" coexist comfortably inside the same skull, but a lot of people live in cognitive dissonance.

Has it occurred to anyone else, knowing the internet is undefeated in Benoit Blancing (I mean, they're dumb but plse), they've done this so in the future when a pic they don't like leaks they can point and say, "See you can't trust anything. It could be fake. Like that one time we published a fake."
The White House has been caught.

The administration inserted a photo of Bill Clinton, Michael Jackson, and Diana Ross into the Epstein files and falsely implied it showed them with victims.

In reality, it’s a publicly available fundraiser photo featuring Jackson and Ross’s own children.

The death of the secret identity is a big part of this. When your hero has a double life, it’s more organic to create a supporting cast around the civilian side.
This is a big thing I think a lot of mainline series have lost - interacting with a non-powered civilian supporting cast, which also is connected to a lot of series just being about a hero or team solely working to protect themselves/feeling in a bubble away from the more mundane world
In comics, you need those moments between big storylines so you can build out the world and feature your supporting cast.

And YES, you need a robust supporting cast. Your hero is nothing without a community to interact with.

And NORMAL people too. You can’t have an entire ensemble of capes!

I left a 3/4 full jug of All Free & Clear in the laundry room and somebody stole it.

I hope it was the jackass who uses Gain just so I don’t have to smell that when I walk past the laundry room

LIFE RULES:
Insulate your house with books to ward off evil
Oppose the zombie AI apocalypse
Never click on a link to the Daily Mail
Use double the recommended amount of garlic
Always stop to say hi to sheep
And to horses too (but in a fake posh voice)

I think that's more or less everything covered?

Sometimes Threads is hilarious and sometimes it’s hell.

Today in Hell, a woman asked if she’s being a drama queen because some attendees of her party didn’t order the outfit and didn’t do the task (satin pajamas, and a PowerPoint presentation on what they’ve accomplished this year)

LAST night…

AI slop is now DNA deep in academic research and case law. Awesome.
Closing out my year with a journal editor shocker 🧵

Checking new manuscripts today I reviewed a paper attributing 2 papers to me I did not write. A daft thing for an author to do of course. But intrigued I web searched up one of the titles and that's when it got real weird...

Everyone’s in $$$ loungewear sets in neutrals or pale pink, or in sports bras with leggings that are semi-sheer and involve camel toe, thigh gaps and deliberate wedgies, also in neutrals or pale pink, and I’m stalking the Gap Factory website for them to drop the price of the maroon joggers I want

A script is well-structured, it flows well, the story math checks out, and yet... readers aren’t responding to it. There’s a good chance they’re getting ahead of the story, ‘cuz it’s too predictable. Here’s a quick #Scriptsky #Screenwriting thread on ANTICIPATION and SUBVERTING EXPECTATIONS.

We all look gnarly with a hyper powered lens on our skin showing pores, follicles, sebum, flakes, etc, with or without makeup.

The choice to use the shot like that was brilliant.

And Pulitzer Worthy as a Resistance Statement, imo.

THIS. *They stole your fellow writers' FUCKING HEARTS' BLOOD to power their fancy-ass text-based writer-imitation machine.* You wanna get all NUANCED about that? Your easygoing take on that issue will sooner or later (most likely sooner) be used to steal *your* stuff. Let's see how *you* like it. 🫤
And please also, AGAIN, never forget that they are inherently unethical to use because no one gave permission for their research or writing to be used in it. It is all stolen, and if you're using the plagiarism machine, please keep that in mind.
My friends, I say this with all the love in my heart: Right now might not be the moment for “But we should be TOLERANT and NUANCED about the plagiarism machines!”

Your tolerance and “nuance” will be weaponised by the grifters and their apologists. Please respect yourselves more.

Defending SFWA's take about AI as an author communicates you've used it.

You used it "before anyone told you it was bad" doesn't fly because everyone said it was bad from the get go. You chose to ignore the critics.

Dunno what to say other than sci fi writers would know better, you'd think.

"The big venture-funded AI companies are machines for taking money from venture capitalists and setting it on fire. The chatbots are just the excuse for them to do that. The companies are simply not sustainable standalone businesses."
‘AI is here to stay’ — is it, though? What do you mean, ‘stay’?
When some huge and stupid public chatbot disaster hits the news, the AI pumpers will Kramer into the mentions to say stuff like “you have to admit, AI is here to stay.” Well, no, I don’t. Not unles…

All I want for Christmas (besides $$$) is for someone who isn’t a bigot to come up with a term that means “someone without magical ability” so I have a single word to use to refer to non-pagans when talking to witchy folk AND to refer to people who don’t like genre fiction when talking to writers.
