This is fairly common in Europe and I, for one, would welcome that immediately.

It provides built-in grace for having to speed up to avoid a crash while also providing meaningful enforcement of speed limits. The only reason I end up speeding is that everyone else is. I would prefer enforced limits.

These federal research cuts are raising questions about why the Trump administration is scrapping basic programs that could make roads safer, more accessible, and less polluted, while telling the public they're curbing "woke" waste.
What Are University Transportation Centers — And Why Did Secretary Duffy Decimate Their Budgets? — Streetsblog USA
University Transportation Centers are "where innovation happens." Earlier this month, though, the Trump administration took a sledgehammer to their budgets.

1. 🧵 on both German intercity rail and the TCP high-speed rail proposal, inspired by someone on Twitter asking @mattyglesias.bsky.social about how I'm addressing Deutsche Bahn's own problems with reliability. So, to start with, here are some schematics; NEC is what we propose, not current service.

Tomorrow is the 15th anniversary of the BP Disaster. I am going to re-do & edit a thread I wrote on Twitter for the 10th anniversary because it feels even more relevant today as fascism overtakes the country, and the very existence of our government's ability to respond to disasters is under threat.

Fun Fact: Ever heard of GO Transit Detroit/Windsor Line? This line was proposed in 1989 by the Think Rail Group, as apart of a larger proposal for rail transportation in Ontario.

The first phase of this plan recommended transferring all VIA Rail service running within Ontario to GO Transit.

With the notable difference that, in Italy, when a judge ordered that the migrants be returned back pending the evaluation of their status, the government complied immediately.

They complained about "ideological judges," but they complied.

That's the entire problem of what's going on in the US.
You know why European countries are so quiet about the El Salvador situation? Because they started the normalisation of extraterritorial detention of migrants and asylum seekers, often without any due process. The UK’s Rwanda plan. Italy’s attempted plan with Albania. And some still want to do it.
