EVERYBODY ALREADY KNEW, TIM, THAT'S WHY YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO FIGHT FOR HEALTCARE
Kaine on why he thinks just getting a vote on healthcare is a win: "We're the minority party, but everybody will get to see who is standing for them when it comes to lowering their healthcare costs"

A reminder.
As I say often, universal health care is disaster mitigation and preparedness. This is why.
Remembering this 2022 study that found that universal health care in the US could have saved 330,000 lives in the early days of covid.

It could also have saved us $105 billion -- ON TOP of the annual $438 billion we could save in non-pandemic years.

This is a sister video to the “there’s no
point in saying good morning” video.
Tonight was a very bad night.

The arrogance of a Senator who is not even running again to take the lead in undermining the Caucus and the voters.
Shaheen: So let me be clear. No one in the senate chamber wants to extend the ACA tax credits more than I do.

So to summarize: in Maine we have two absolutely delusional senators, a good but aging governor who refuses to retire, an asshole running for senate, a whiny quitter up north, and pingree’s been mostly hiding in her greenhouse.

Just go ahead and saw Maine off like that Florida GIF.

No Kings includes Angus
King: So I believe that we are closer tonight to a vote on the ACA tax credits than we were this morning. This agreement tonight is a win for the American people.

Other than extending SuCo’s “shame on you” chant so this man never knows a minute of peace, I don’t know how to punish Angus King for this.

We can, however, make sure that his son, who is running for governor, gets no where near the Blaine house.

The government has been shut down for 40 days—the longest in history. All Democrats have fought hard for extending the Affordable Care Act tax credits that make health care affordable for millions. I’m voting against the bill given it doesn’t extend these valuable tax credits.

This is really good to see: Miki Sherrill just put out a statement sharply criticizing the Senate Dems' pending cave in the government shutdown, ripping it as "malpractice" and a betrayal of the people who are "counting on us to fight for them." Sherrill knows what drove her victory. Wake up, Dems.

An oxygen thief.
Sen Gary Peters is in his own way the biggest embarrassment of the lot. He’s been a leader of Team Cave and he’s retiring. So there’s no politics or risk aversion. He wants to cave as a matter of genuine principle.

I refuse to support a funding bill that fails to address the Republican health care crisis.

And make health insurance affordable.

The American people clearly understand the stakes and the urgency. We must too.

I'm voting no.

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.

And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

Let me get this right… a sufficient number Senate Democrats appear to be willing to reopen government to alleviate air travel for upper & upper-middle income people at the expense of access to healthcare for lower income people. Yes?

Following up on this. This remains a ‘cave is minutes or hours away’ situation. If you want to impact how this plays out you need to contact senators literally now. I want to add additional points of context. What I’m relaying is what I’ve picked up from highly reliable sources.
Sounds like the squishes in the senate caucus are ready to pull the plug with no ACA changes. This is real. If you want to register your opinion you shld call yr senator in the next hour. They not only want to reopen w/nothing. They want cover from their colleagues who still want to hold out.

Dems backed Trump into a corner where he’s advocating for starving Americans and hemorrhaging support. If they vote to let him off the hook in exchange for nothing it’s a cataclysmic failure. I know people are in pain but insulating Republicans from political consequences is not the answer.

Schumer isn't afraid of Dem voters. People can yell *primary* all they want as the Federal government becomes more fascist over time. There is no organized movement against the Democratic party. There's the fascists and their enablers (the Democratic party). Perhaps this would be the final straw.
