I just skimmed through the intervention by Sex Matters in GLP v EHRC.

They say that their witness statement alone is a sufficient warrant to disapply Article 8 rights for trans people, as if Maya Forstater has discovered a new spell “Revocatus Conventionium, I hereby revoke your rights.”

Two things from this exchange between Phillipson and her Shadow equivalent from today.

1) Worrying that Coutinho doesn’t know what month the SC ruling was. The transphobia is, of course, unsurprising.

2) We are still fucked looking at Phillipson’s comments. No RIA but a quicker minimum assessment.

This was a huge victory for women's rights, but now we hear that the Minister is kicking the Equality and Human Rights Commission's much-needed guidance into the long grass. The law is not changing— the law is as it has always been — so will she release the guidance and make sure that women's rights are protected? Bridget Phillipson > If I may, Mr Speaker, I would just like to say how moved I was by the interview that the right hon. Lady gave to The Times about her experience and that of her son. I am really pleased that both of them are doing so well and that she is back with us in this House today. We are committed to protecting single-sex spaces. As I set out in this House, I welcome the clarity of the Supreme Court ruling and providers should follow it. The EHRC has given me the code of practice and we are working through that. It is a lengthy document covering all the protected characteristics. Any suggestion of delay is simply wrong. The EHRC should know that I am legally required to consult the devolved Governments. The EHRC has not been asked to carry out a full regulatory impact assessment, but instead a minimum assessment.

To Chief Executive Equality and Human Rights Commission Arndale House, Manchester 5 November 2025 Dear John Kirkpatrick, I write further to the proposed judicial review in May and to make an intervention in relation to the Commission’s latest work on the production of a draft Code of Practice. It is regrettable that the Commission chose not to issue an apology for the risk that the Interim Update posed to the safety and wellbeing of the trans community. Instead, the Commission withdrew it, apparently with the intention of avoiding judicial review of its underlying legal and policy position. Namely, that the provision of trans-inclusive gendered services or facilities might be unlawful. The Minister has instructed the Commission to carry out a Regulatory Impact Assessment. As a businesswoman who is also trans, I welcome this requirement. It ensures that you cannot again place me in the position of being advised to act in a manner that would amount to discrimination against myself, only for that advice to be later withdrawn. You are reminded of your legal duty to act in accordance with the Human Rights Act 1998 and the Equality Act 2006. Attention is also drawn to the remarks of Michael O’Flaherty, Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, who emphasised the need for clear guidance on ensuring the inclusion of trans people across all areas of society, and for limiting any exclusion to circumstances that are strictly necessary and proportionate under the European Convention on Human Rights. You are further reminded that this approach is consistent with the equivalent tests set out in domestic law under the Equality Act 2010. Interference by the State with civil liberties can never be based on a mere technicality, nor can it be imposed without objective justification. The shock-and-awe tactics underpinning the false claim that businesses must either oppress trans people or incur costs to modify facilities and services must end. The Commission must take decisive and unequivocal action to bring this debate to an end. I look forward to the outcome of the Regulatory Impact Assessment and to your evaluation of the practical options, such as providing gender-neutral facilities or services as a form of exempted, limited provision under Schedule 3 of the Equality Act 2010 for those who require it, while trans-inclusive arrangements and gender mainstreaming policies remain in place. So the EHRC didn’t take account of the HRA, the ECHR, the CoE conventions and protocols, UN treaty obligations and other regulations like the Rights of the Child in Scotland or GDPR? And trade obligations, costs to business, inappropriate gender policing and targeting of non feminine women. Never!

I’m told Labour MPs have been told by whips to *abstain* in the vote on Nigel Farage’s ten-min rule bill on leaving the ECHR, which has left some furious. Whips’ arguments seems to be to just ignore it. Labour MPs worry it leaves Lib Dems/Greens looking like only they care on this.

All 4 @greenparty.org.uk MPs voted against it, because we believe international agreements on human rights are a good thing.

But only 63 out of 401 Labour MPs did:
