Michael Wolff tried to buy New York Mag — with money from Harvey Weinstein and Jeffrey Epstein.

So Wolff didn't just have a reporter-source relationship with Epstein. Nor was Wolff his informal PR adviser. They saw each other as potential business partners.

Most people don’t know that with SNAP you are banned from buying “foods that are hot at the point of sale”. So even if you have SNAP (which people don’t now) you can’t get cooked food. Which means you need to also actually have the resources to PREPARE a “healthy” meal.
Thinking about the social stigma against eating fast food in a country where poor people are being starved by the govt, the cost of groceries and fresh vegetables are astronomical, and a cheeseburger at McDonald’s costs $3.50.

“Clean” and “healthy” eating rhetoric is racist, ableist, and classist.

pre-writing a devastating obituary for your enemy is god-tier hating of a kind you don’t often see anymore. renaissance haterism. beautiful stuff.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

Game company sows misinformation to cover up union busting, fans fall for it, actual employee posts explaining the employees were fired to prevent the studio unionizing

This is *unacceptable*
This wasn’t about leaking GTA VI.

It was:
Rockstar illegally firing union members to stop the studio from unionizing.

it directly contradicts Rockstar’s PR narrative and confirms almost everything that people suspected was going on.

What's really frustrating is how obvious this was from official investigatory records that I obtained, the same reporting on which the EBT based its reporting calling the shooting an "assassination" attempt. It was clearly local beef.

The FBI uses a lot of shitty people as cooperators and informants but Trump is a great example of someone they wouldn’t use — a pathologically narcissistic braggart who could never keep a secret or maintain focus. It would be like asking the Trix rabbit to wear a wire.

i don't particularly trust the Venezuelan government but i can't think of any good reason to consider our government more credible here
I think it's important to note that Venezuela is saying this didn't happen.

They've recovered no debris, and they contend the video appears to be a deep fake. Yet crucially, the US media is mostly avoiding reporting this, or examining the video.

The federal govt's extortion of UCLA has numerous problems. One is that it is ostensibly based on some factual allegations that are so exaggerated that they are actually false.

I wrote about this today in a long blog post reflecting on what I saw at UCLA and how lawyers later mischaracterized it:

LAPD choppers are a malignant nuisance. They're harbingers of surveillance, operated *continuously*—yet the city's own data show they raise stress, impair cognition and burn 100,000s of gallons of gas. The best part? there's no evidence they deter or reduce crime at all.

It's time to ground them.
Ground the choppers
The LAPD's helicopter mania is both a policy disaster and a symbol of our malignant, badly functioning surveillance state.

One year ago this week, The Onion returned to print.

In that one year, we’ve grown to the 13th largest print newspaper in the United States, just ahead of the Boston Globe, and growing fast.

In short, it’s working.

So… thank you. Thank you for helping save this thing.

This is the same eugenic belief system that many still hold re: the ongoing pandemic. They believe people’s deaths from covid are acceptable if they’re medically vulnerable. It’s a disgusting ableist belief system and this rhetoric surrounding children in Gaza is the natural consequence of that
I’m kind of speechless with this one. I can’t imagine the kind of person who continues to make the argument that it doesn’t count as real starvation if the kids were already sick.
