You cannot overstate how startling it is to see a politician just say the thing with clarity and poise. No fearful hemming. No overwrought qualifying down til it’s meaningless. No lingering sense that there is a loyalty to a donor class or an ideology of stasis that they’d never admit to.

it is impossible for mayors or cops to learn positive lessons about protest response because they all have two immovable beliefs:
1. it is evil and childish to hold police officers accountable for violent acts
2. cops must be present at all times during protests

The lesson Frey and Walz were supposed to learn in 2020 was that sending riot police to a peaceful protest creates a confrontation that results in some dipshit cops shooting people in the eye with a gas canister which then we have to goddamn pay for in settlements while also our city burns.

I've thought about this. As a kid I loved a lot of listicle-style books that did not have much art in them. Was it more nourishing than AI-generated lists? Maybe not. But people got paid, and I care about that!
I think a lot of people who create stuff will be dismayed at the fact that a lot of the time, a lot of media is sorta just filler anyway. Which always happened ('mainstream' vs 'real art'), but at least 'sellout' mainstream work paid real peoples' bills
This is how I feel but it is remarkable and soul-killing to see how many people are fine with AI junk.
