I've been analyzing the cost of different development patterns in #OttCity. Using the city's open data and the 2021 Census, I was able to calculate how much stuff we build (and maintain) per dwelling.

Here is an initial look at the data.

Just a reminder that Sesame Street still airs on PBS and you don't have to pay Netflix any money to watch it.
‘SESAME STREET’ is coming to Netflix with new episodes and past seasons premiering later this year.

I don’t know whether to say this is an example of ‘development charges are evil’ or ‘stop public funding for Catholic schools’. Let’s say ‘both’. www.thestar.com/news/gta/why...
Why the Helen Keller foundation behind this complex for deafblind residents says it’s been unfairly charged nearly $200K
The Canadian Helen Keller Centre says its south Etobicoke complex will help those suffering a combination of hearing and vision loss live independent lives.

it's jolting how little AI skepticism has reached the general public. i've had many acquaintances ask whether i use AI for research and seem shocked when i tell them it's completely useless for that purpose. my wife recently told her colleagues about hallucinations and it was news to all of them.

With all sincerity, Elections Canada is a national treasure.

- Voting typically takes less than 15 minutes
- We make it easy for citizens to vote, without cumbersome registration hurdles
- We have every reason to trust that ballots will be counted fairly, and results reported swiftly

Before April 22, I would not have believed a Supreme Court justice would flat out lie- but as the author of the children's book in question, I can confirm that he absolutely did. Thanks @jaywillis.net for reporting on this- more people should be.
Neil Gorsuch told some of the most obvious, farcical, easily debunked lies I can remember a justice telling. I promise you could spend an hour trying to guess what he says is a picture of a “sex worker” in a children’s book, and not get anywhere close. ballsandstrikes.org/scotus/pride...
I Think Neil Gorsuch Is Lying About a “Religious Freedom” Case Again
Why did Gorsuch claim that ‘Pride Puppy’, an alphabet book about a lost dog, introduces kids to bondage and sex workers? Let’s find out!

As an Ottawan, I want to denounce the Ottawa Police Association who like the Toronto PA has now endorsed the Conservatives. It's vile, unethical & makes me feel unsafe as a resident. So they'll stand by for the next convoy terrorizing us too? Here's their letter:

The Rebel have (I counted) no fewer than a dozen people in this room. There’s no journalistic rationale to send that many people.

Cllr. Johnson raised this during our budget deliberations last year, as well. Council underfunds pedestrian and cycling safety generally compared to the need. Confirmation that camera revenues aren't being fully utilized to at least partially address that underfunding is extremely frustrating.
The City’s Auditor General released a report today about Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) and Red Light Cameras. The report found that the revenues are not being spent entirely on road safety, but going into City general revenues and to the police.

Poilievre is saying that unless we do consecutive sentences for multiple murders, you get “4 years of jail time per murder.”

“That’s insane” he says.

It’s actually a lie.

They don’t get out. They get a hearing, and the murderers he’s talking about don’t get parole in Canada.

He’s rage-farming.
