I love the weird days between Christmas Day & New Year Day.

Feels very lawless as an adult.

This is the vibe I need.

this game was a wild ride that I kept abandoning then returning to. it took many repeat rounds (especially rounds 44 & 47), but I can finally officially say that I'm a human being lol. highly recommend this game if you're looking to spend time not doomscrolling this winter.
I’m Not a Robot, a game about solving CAPTCHAs, is out now!

good luck :)

This … isn’t true though? The segment wasn’t censored due to government interference, it was internal meddling. If the segment was pulled any earlier it would have been censored in Canada too.
This message hits hard.

Prison guards:

- Watched a woman experiencing psychosis gouge out her own eyeballs.

- Ignored a man’s beeping insulin pump for more than 24 hours before he died.

- Left a man sitting in his own feces not eating for weeks, he lost 60 lbs before he died.

All in San Diego County, last ~5 years.
Now if we could just get people to view US prisons through the same lens they view CECOT.

Important context here: when Peter Thiel and David Sacks began their war on diversity as undergrads at Stanford, thirty years ago, the very first tactic they adopted was to normalize slurs that had already been stigmatized out of mainstream society. This return of these hateful terms was a key goal.
“It turns out that banishing the slur from public discourse was, in fact, important. Because now it’s back and it turns out that it does matter when subtext becomes actual text, when terrible people enable open hatred and bigotry, encouraging others to emulate them, degrading us all.”
Perry: The return of the r-word
"These days, the r-word slur has become a staple of the American right wing, uttered with few professional or social consequences," David M. Perry writes.

I don’t mean to sound extreme, but I don’t think we should have torture camps for people with criminal records either.

It’s the “season of love and giving”…but this year, doesn’t it seem more like a “season of fear and taking”? Like many of you, I’ve been saddened by the human impact of draconian government budget cuts and how angry many housed Americans are at unhoused Americans.

This lovely article about Duane and his family. Duane was an artist, activist, and fought against the stigma of being gay and having AIDS (which, y'all). Also, the tragedy of his quilt and its rebirth!

I’m sorry, but it is disgraceful to be an academic who uses this technology to conduct research. It should be prohibited in all of our scholarly institutions, including universities and journals.

wrt the recent “America is Good Actually and we need to reclaim flag-waving patriotism” discourse:

this isn’t some new Trumpist aberration, this *IS* America, and when you wave the flag and talk about how good we had it under Biden and Obama, you’re saying that this is fine
Everyone should take a couple of minutes and watch this, because it's a perfect illustration of how ICE disappears people by making it almost impossible to communicate with family, friends, and lawyers.

NEW: Without USAID funding to help buy food for refugees, the World Food Program rushed to prioritize families based on need, determining that only half the population would get food.

Refugees learned which half they were in from a number stamped on the back of their ration card.
