Yeah, there are echoes, but this is much worse.

No real effort to persuade the American public or bring along international allies, no backing or buy-in from Congress, no pretense of a noble cause or anything, just one dumb power-mad thug being led to war by another.
people keep saying this is like the iraq war, but, no, this is worse, the admin has not even attempted to make a case for this, and republicans want a king
"What side is he really on?" -- Rep. Roger Williams repeatedly suggests that Tim Kaine is on Iran's "side" because he wants to limit Trump's war powers

Most importantly this affects the treatment of individuals held in the office.

The second issue is a transparency one. If the offices aren't considered "facilities" then ICE doesn't have to report them in their congressionally-mandated detention statistics releases.
ICE has been taking the position nationwide that its field offices, and the detention cells therein, are not facilities "operated by or for [DHS] used to detain or otherwise house aliens," on the argument that the facilities are "processing areas" and therefore not covered detention facilities.

Several key labor nominees are being grilled before the Senate HELP committee this morning.

Jonathan Berry, a corporate lawyer with extremely anti-worker and misogynistic views, is a horrifying choice for solicitor of labor.

Worth a read. IRS has been watching this closely.

IRS will have to implement any tax cut, deduction or credit.

This temporary credit may help in the short term, but the high cost of living will wipe out any benefit. Think housing, food, and tarriffs. Think big picture.

Stay frosty folks.
The White House just posted some wild propaganda about the overtime tax proposal in the form of... a diet coke ad. 💰🤑

They want workers to think they're not getting taxed on overtime and are taking home bigger paychecks, but here's why that's incredibly misleading.

Forgive me for saying something obvious, but the problem with Roberts' logic is that when a certain condition by definition can only occur in one class of people, targeting that condition is indistinguishable from targeting the class. It's a distinction without a difference.
"We're not saying you can't get health care because you're transgender, which would be illegal.

We're just saying we refuse to treat the conditions that cause you to be transgender. That's different and okay."

A pathetic, indefensible logical pretzel from SCOTUS

I just like to post these data from time to time to puncture the mythological aura of mid 20th c protests. They were less popular than pretty much any 21st c mass action & people criticizing them used the same lines. Protest is about people coming together, shaping narratives, & building power.

This article is about horrifying things, not least of which is the fact that it opens with an NYT writer enthusiastically using an A.I. to generate focus, characters, and thesis for his next book, because he couldn't think of them

Personally, I would fire that person today, but what do I know
“If history, per the adage, is written by the winners, then it’s not premature to wonder how the winners of the A.I. race might soon shape the stories that historians tell about the past.”
A.I. Is Poised to Rewrite History. Literally.

Don't let them lie to you about Senator Padilla. DHS is claiming the agents DID NOT KNOW he was a senator. He CLEARLY says (BEFORE he is tackled and cuffed) "I am Senator Alex Padilla and I have a question for the secretary."

A US Senator was thrown to the ground and handcuffed by federal agents, and then the DHS Secretary went on to say that they are taking control from the "socialist" local government. That is fascist, there is no other proper word for it than that. No euphemisms are necessary or warranted.
