I recently made a trip to the New England Peace Pagoda in Massachusetts. What a fascinating space of religious pluralism that combines indigenous nations sacred objects with Buddhism and extreme non-violence and anti-nuclear activism.

What a great man and great loss.
Just learned that my wonderful colleague Joe Elder has passed away at the age of 94. I knew Joe through the UW Center for South Asia where he was a fixture at our Thursday noon lecture series for so many years, even when the topic was far from his own field. A citizen of the world & remarkable life
Just learned that Joe Elder passed away last week. If I had not had the opportunity to work with Joe as a teaching assistant for Intro LGBTQIA+, my life would look very different now. He was a wonderful man who worked for a better world in both huge & very small ways.

I work for a Canadian university, and I have to use two-factor authentication to get into everything, the email, university resources, grade portals, my course websites. Meanwhile the entire US federal government's systems seem to be handed over to the neo-Nazi robber baron of our age
This might give some pause to anyone who thinks of Musk’s DOGE as just a dispassionate accounting firm trying to make everything run more smoothly.

Arguably the biggest national security breach in U.S. history. Private employees downloading personnel data on every federal employee and tax and social security data on every American onto private unsecured servers. Needless to say, completely illegal and subject to major prison sentences.
3/ different pieces fit together. There also seems to be a significant amount of downloading government data onto private servers, etc, totally outside any cybersecurity regime. Additionally it’s unclear to the people inside whether the people doing these things actually work for the US govt…
