a book that will make me feel how Piranesi felt.

Piranesi by Susanna Clark is literally my roman empire- It's been months since I read it but I've been thinking about it ever since. I need recommendations that will live up to it! by veryreallygoo

Coming from a family full of alcoholics and autistic people, I've been writing a piece about the relationship between alcoholism and autism. But considering genetics plays a major role in addiction I wondered if maybe this was just my family's problem. It's validating to see other people who relate.
Today is exactly 1 year since I stopped drinking alcohol. Which is pretty huge. So in honor of this milestone...

I'm going to share the 3 reasons I used to drink as an autistic person... the reason I chose to stop... and why I'll never drink again.

Here goes...

At the start of each day of conclave they all sing ‘Take Me To Church’ by Hozier in its entirety. You don’t see it in the film because they couldn’t clear the rights.

Took my cat to the vet today and she's a talker so it was an hour of my brain going "is this enough eye contact? Or does it look like I'm staring?" "Are my 'yeah's emphatic enough to show I'm paying attention?" "Is this enough smiling to show I'm not a bitch? Or is it too much since my cat is sick?"

I feel like this is another form of American exceptionalism
It is a little weird to me countries aren’t more aggressively, formally trying to take advantage of the U.S. science brain drain. Once in a lifetime opportunity to buy low on Non-Dumbass Americans with PhDs who just wanna look into microscopes and quietly cure ass cancer as our country eats shit.

This guy really told on himself when he said "it's hard to picture", I understand you can't imagine an event that is large AND well-organized AND not under the threat of a terrorist attack, but your failure of imagination says more about your culture and your xenophobia than about Brazil.
Where do 2.5 million people piss? It’s hard to picture there being anywhere near the facilities needed. You couldn’t pay me to be in that crowd! All you’d need is one bigger to start yelling bomb and there’d be a crowd crush worse than you see in India

everyone wants “clear, direct communication” until they’re communicating with an autistic person lol 🙃

Always disappointing when I see someone who I thought was kind being cruel to someone they perceive as being "out-group". I realize they were just nice to me because they see me as being in-group which, from personal experience, can change with the smallest disagreement

"I too am not a bit tamed, I too am untranslatable,
I sound my barbaric yawp over the roofs of the world.

The last scud of day holds back for me,
It flings my likeness after the rest and true as any on the shadow’d wilds,

It coaxes me to the vapor and the dusk."

"The iron thing they carried, I will not carry" 🤍
"My mother
was the mossy stream out behind the house [...]
My father
was a demon of frustrated dreams [...]

I sweep the closets.
I leave the house.

I mention them now,
I will not mention them again.

It is not lack of love
nor lack of sorrow.
But the iron thing they carried, I will not carry."

I honestly believe our most powerful position in a toxic time that feeds on cynicism, apathy,& despair is to genuinely care and act for a better world.

Cynicism is our enemy. We should check it, incl. on the left. It’s not intellectually superior. It’s the virus they’re trying to infect us with. NO

I took some more photos of poor Pepper today. He is so sweet and loving and gentle but nobody has wanted to adopt him just because he looks a little bit scrungly. 😢 Please share with anyone you know in northern Vermont who might be interested! www.hsccvt.org/Cats#sl_embe...

My BlueSky pet peeve are the posts about how BlueSky has no algorithm, I feel like I see 2-3 of those every day 🙃

(BlueSky DOES have an algorithm on the Discover feed which is the default feed for new users)

Masks work, and now is a better time than ever to start wearing them if you’ve stopped. Trump intends to throw out the ACA and let the pre-existing condition exclusions come back. You don’t want long Covid, but you REALLY don’t want long Covid and no health insurance.
