Geese "Getting Killed" while processing paperwork this morning. Some good songs & good grooves, but the singer is in a post-Byrne -Mangum -Yorke space and it's killing it for me.

home with the baby so lots of overnight tv time. I tried Slow Horses but it’s another shitty Apple dad show (basically boomer dad interests + everybody gets a little vulnerable (all hugs, all lessons))

The justice system has to be a universal government system, like the post office. The same way that the post office has to keep some bush pilots, delivery boats, and horseback mail carriers on the books for the most out of the way places, justice must protect the public from people who are not safe.
I‘m tired of being nice about this; “abolitionism” has had years to develop a non-idiot policy program and the best they’ve come up with is ”murder without even the pretense of juridical process.” And I am not nut-picking; this is all over abolitionist writing.

This is such an exciting project. It’s the most complete and well-executed example of quality bike and bus infrastructure in the city and it shows what PBOT is capable of when given relative design freedom and ample funding.

The good news: Portland is opting into Oregon's optional 4-story single-stair code section.

The bad news: Portland's fire marshal has managed to insert a poison pill into what appeared to be a take-it-or-leave-it appendix text, likely making it unusable in most cases.

Portland’s new single-staircase rule faces big hurdles
The city now allows single-staircase buildings as tall as four stories, but a fire access rule may make most projects unbuildable, one designer warns.

As they say “the law, in its majestic equality, forbids rich and poor alike to sleep under bridges, to beg in the streets, and to steal their bread”
Trump's SCOTUS, in an unsigned order:

“Displaying passport holders’ sex at birth no more offends equal protection principles than displaying their country of birth. In both cases, the Govt is merely attesting to a historical fact w/o subjecting anyone to differential treatment.”

Something crazy about the US and international copyright enforcement regime is that they consistently criminalize digital archiving when it is done for pro-social reasons, but consistently protect the reuse of archived materials by other parties when it is for commercial reasons

Look, he did this because he only knows how to do one thing and it’s run a construction scam. Make him the Pope and he’s going to try to build a hotel on St. Peter’s Square. It’s just what he does.

Hero’s of the day - In a small town of Beckley, WV, Kendra Sullivan staged a one-woman No Kings protest. She was confronted, had the police called on her, but stood her ground. She was physically threatened. Police came more than once and protected her right to protest. This is how we do it.

when opponents of this project talk about “bus only” lanes obstructing access to their business they are straight up lying about trimet’s proposed design, in which “BAT” lanes can be used by both busses and right turning traffic
BikePortland obtained via a public records request, letters from two law firms that intensely oppose the bus lanes. The firms represent Washman (which has two car washes on 82nd), Fubonn, and a strip mall owner.

MAJOR NEWS: @GavinNewsom signed SB 79, my bill allowing more housing near public transit — rail, subway, rapid bus.

It’s a huge step for housing in California. It’ll create more homes, strengthen our transit systems & reduce traffic & carbon emissions.

Thank you, Governor!
