Happy to do my part. They better learn that a lot of people care about this shit.

An incredibly bleak statement, from a New York Mag article about how tv for kids is fine, and concerns are overblown. That’s the whole point —maybe we shouldn’t replace the variety of toys and ways to explore with your senses with a passive viewing screen.

A nice discovery from having abundant Steven Smith teas around the office is learning that an infusion of high quality chamomile is a beautiful color, in between chartreuse and olive oil.

Last night, I finished THE BRIGHT SWORD, an Arthurian fantasy by Lev Grossman.

I had mid expectations to it because a) I liked The Magicians but didn't think the writing was strong enough for me to continue reading it. b) I've never been a King Arthur guy. I never saw the appeal.

I’m very moved by this decorative lamp in the Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco.

There’s nothing more precious, fragile, and worthy of respect than the dreams of peace of a traumatized people.

Who knew Dalton Trumbo was such a fit god? (From the Stanley Kubrick Archive published by Taschen, around the time that Trumbo wrote Spartacus)

The writers they chose to put on these benches are so random—Beckett, Stein, Homer, and Mishima. Like what would they even say to each other.

Gotta take my kudos where I find them.

Brahms Violin Concerto and S-S Organ Symphony with the Oregon Symphony this afternoon. It’s been a little bit since my last ORS concert—brass section is sounding fantastic.

Today I visited Alcatraz Island for the first time. Any day when I can use four different modes of transportation is a great day to me. Here's the view from the inside of a 1928 Peter Witt-style streetcar retired from service in Milan. (The other 3? Light rail, bus, ferry.

The great dragon known as global capital is always hungry for "inefficiencies" like good wages, support for local communities, safety above and beyond regulation, etc. What it finds, it swallows.

Sometimes a business gets stuck in its throat like a fish bone. Their products look like this:

I just caught up on a controversy in Christian evangelical world about a dumb phallocentric sex theology book and, man o man I am glad not to be in those circles anymore.

The Christian feminist theologian writers are doing their very best but even their critiques are so sex negative.
