This normalizes corruption, feeding the sentiment that both sides suck and so politics is pointless. A Dem party focused on rehabilitating its broken brand would be criticizing Trump and booting out Cuellar. Let the corrupt guys become corporate lobbyists - they’re dragging our party down.
Jeffries claims the charges against Cueller were "very thin" and says Trump's pardon was "exactly the right outcome"

like for god's sake why do you think people like Platner are so popular despite what should be disqualifying personal histories? because they will actually say it's a genocide. they will say 'no war with venezuela' not whatever mealy mouthed insistence that congress have a chance to co-sign it.
like the most consistent position from elected Democrats is demanding to see the evidence to justify these strikes. that's not an anti-war position.
the Democratic Party has comprehensively failed to oppose either war with Venezuela or these boat strikes beyond a handful of statements and media hits about how one of them violates the rules of war.

I'm not saying they *support* it. but they are not even attempting to lead the opposition to it.

It remains extremely funny how much a not dyed-in-the-wool-socialist I am but, regardless, how committed as a DSA partisan I have become because it is an org, and vehicle, that is actually committed to contesting the existence of DHS, protecting trans rights, and taking an anti-war stance etc

helps to think about the details like any regular crime you'd see on one of the 800 cop shows that run on TV constantly: these guys committed one set of murders, thought it over, and then decided to kill the witnesses as part of the coverup. mention of drugs is just jingling keys at this point

Mafia governance in action

If anyone needs any further context on how weird immigration law is, humanitarian visas for abused children are considered "employment-based".
This backlog is less about streamlining and more about how Congress set visa numbers in 1990, and has made effectively ZERO changes to this system in the last 35 years.

In 2000, when Congress created SIJS, they linked it to the visa system; so you can win SIJS and still wait 5 years for a visa.
And no one talks about ways to make things move along more smoothly or how to streamline immigration procedures so backlogs aren’t so crazy and people can do things easier, more efficiently and legally. They just skip that part and think they can deport people for the foreseeable future.

Gary Malphrus strikes again: the Board of Immigration Appeals rules that immigration judges should generally NOT grant administrative closure to children who are eligible for Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, simply because the backlogs are lengthy and it might take 4-5 years to get the visa.

NEW: We’ve uncovered the first known example of taxpayer money flowing from DHS to businesses controlled by Kristi Noem’s allies and friends.

It’s part of a money trail that’s been shrouded in secrecy—and involves $220 million, a mysterious Delaware LLC & a horse named Gill.

The Trump admin is planning to say that being from Cuba (or any other travel ban country) is a "significant negative factor" that could lead to a denial of any of several discretionary immigration benefits (like green cards).

Seriously; national origin discrimination as official government policy.

For some reason, nobody mentions this, but Trump himself extended TPS to Venezuelan refugees in his first term, which continued under Biden; only to now villainize them, portray them as gangsters and killers, enemy number 1 to be mass deported, today. Really sick stuff.
This is the Trump admin's gift to the Florida GOP in exchange for their support during the campaign: an official policy that all Cubans and Venezuelans are inherently suspicious and should probably be denied immigration benefits.

We'll see how that goes over.

it makes so much sense when you *also* realize that this is what elon musk sounds like when he talks about literally anything. they both have what scientists call a "money halo"
Really wild how all these Harvard scientists and mathematics guys constantly talked about how Jeffrey Epstein was this brilliant, "misunderstood" man and then you read his emails and he's clearly a barely literate lecher, extremely easy to understand

Wild how every single member of the political and business elite went into full drooling fascism the second the prospect of consequences for abhorrent behavior started to seem possible
My takeaway from every new Epstein revelation is that some powerful people victimized many powerless young women, many more knew, some actively enabled it--and we're still being told that MeToo and accountability for sexual violence have gone too far

Yeah, I see it. There’s a lot of ways that western stupidity and ignorance walks elites into a war but this is a “in your face moron pedophile.“ Just day to day, a grotesque pest who clearly slithers, party to party, his way into elite circles while barely literate and articulate in his deviance.

Another revelation from all of these emails is that many of the richest and most powerful people in the country absolutely cannot write. Helps explain their sweaty embrace of LLMs.

That those luminaries are a decade more distant from political power I think improved the House's thinking. Making Obama & Clinton people look bad in 2025 hits a lot different than in 2015
honestly my estimation of House Democrats has grown a little bit from the fact that they were clearly eager to leak this *entire* trove of emails even though they would damage or ruin the reputations of a bunch of Democratic Party luminaries who are in the emails
