Though there is no robust scientific literature on the effect of stuffed animals on adult sleep, several studies have shown that plush companions can help adults self-soothe. nyti.ms/4owotLv

I don’t think Trump continuing to look weak by trying to give Putin what he wants does much for him politically. And how can Zelensky agree to give up territory currently under Ukrainian control? Trump’s Russia First policy is an utter disaster.

Where do they find these people?
SCOOP — Gregg Phillips, a conspiracy theorist with no emergency management experience who helped produce the election-denying documentary ‘2000 Mules’ with Dinesh D’Souza and has faced numerous legal inquiries, has been named head of FEMA’s Office of Response and Recovery.

My story:
Conspiracy theorist election denier given FEMA’s second-most important role
Gregg Phillips will lead the Office of Response and Recovery, “the heart of what FEMA does.”

Neither Netflix nor the Paramount/Trump/Saudi Arabia group should own Warner Bros. Both deals are absurd - terrible for consumers and democracy.

This is a story about corruption - Trump using government power to screw consumers and gain control of the media. A red alert moment.

dave's blog post + a recent issue of @iojournal.bsky.social both embody how political scientists have increasingly challenged their own assumptions about the world & how it works, recognizing that many assumptions are based on "time limited social facts"

imo this is a sign of a strong discipline

Optimization was an era. It ended. Now we're living through the enshittification era. It, too, won't last forever.

No do it again, more graphics. Maybe some clip art. Make the font way smaller.

He says the military has launched a new platform that  "puts the world's most powerful frontier AI models, starting with Google Gemini, directly into the hands of every American warrior."

Interesting summary over whether COP30 made much progress "on coalitions of the doing" on climate change. Modest, maybe? A new conversation on green industrialization was something I hadn't picked up on.

Vaccines will protect us against all sorts of ailments but who will protect us from RFK Jr and his quackery?

Bill Cassidy had a chance to do that and utterly failed and will be forever remembered as a coward.

I'd rather not have shingles. A couple of bad days after getting the vaccine was no big deal. Shingles may also reduce dementia risk (as studies suggest it might). That is well worth it. Dementia took my dad and I would wish that on no one.
All over my FB people talking about their bad experiences with shingles vax and dissuading each other from getting it! We need to give people real info on how to mitigate the symtoms caused by vaccines because vaccines are always better than meeting a virus unprepared. Yet drs aren't coaching ppl
