So, happy 48th anniversary of That Lovely Diary Entry From Michael Palin
Sunday, November 13th Today, helped no doubt by the hard, bright freshness of a cool, sunny November morning, I have a feeling of completeness. The world makes sense this Sunday morning. Even the weather seems to be resting, peaceful and mel-lowed after the angry squalls of the last two days. There's a smell of beef and Yorkshire pudding and from where I write I can see the chimney letting out wisps of smoke from the fire in the sitting room. Yesterday I read through the novel so far and was greatly heartened. I saw much that worked and I also saw clearly what didn't work. I can see the way ahead and I can't wait to get going again tomorrow. I just feel very happy and very content at this moment. Nothing is expected of me today except to be here at home. I am perfectly well aware that around the borders of my life are problems, difficulties, painful decisions, even human tragedies demanding my involvement. I know I cannot live in a continual vacuum of happiness - but a day like today restores energies, tops up batteries, rebuilds whatever faith one has. Today there is nothing more I want than what I have.

A bonus bit of history today: the 154th anniversary of the Natural Creeping Baby Doll being patented in the United States

The arms and legs are hinged to a brass clockwork body that moves the arms and legs in imitation of crawling, but the doll moves forward by rolling along on two toothed wheels. A flat piece of wood is attached to top of the movement. It carries a label saying it was patented on 29 August 1871 Image of a doll on all fours. Weirdly AI is making me a more productive writer because any time I get stuck, or run out of momentum on a document, I ask myself "What are you going to do, Richy? Ask the machine for help?" and then I'm suddenly fueled by sufficient spite to keep going.

An old article with a picture of a Pope and the headline RETURN OF THE POPE His Holiness the Pope has been returned safely to the Vatican following his escape from the Apostolic Palace late last week. God's representative on earth slipped away while being walked by a Cardinal last Thursday night and had been missing for six days. “His Holiness likes to have a shit last thing at night,” said Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone. “We usually send Cardinal Vincenzo out with him, but he was a little under the weather, so he had to ask one of the new cardinals to go. Unfortunately, he wasn’t up to the job.” Pope Francis was last seen racing off through St Peter’s Square in pursuit of some pigeons, and led Vatican officials a merry dance in the following days, with reported sightings as far afield as Bologna and Sorrento. Cardinal Bertone spent the day after the disappearance pinning up photocopied ‘MISSING’ posters on lampposts around Rome, and sharing pictures of the missing pontiff on Facebook “It’s been really hard on the Cardinal,” said a Vatican source. “He’s not a young man, and this has really taken it out of him. Seeing him on the back step of St Peter’s Basilica last thing every night, rattling a fork inside a tin of communion wafers, it was heartbreaking.” It is believed that in desperation the Vatican called in professional trackers, who set a number of traps in and around the city state, each one baited with an unshriven soul. “We came down this morning and one of the traps was shut,” said Cardinal Bertone. “There was the most tremendous banging and scratching coming from inside it, so we knew immediately it was the Pope.” The bedraggled pontiff was immediately examined by top theologians, who reported that he was none the worse for his ordeal, although he appeared to have been in a few fights.
