This film, Sallywood, was released mere days after its star Sally Kirkland died at age 84. Or as she would have preferred it, "passed into spirit." This piece is part review, part appreciation of Kirkland, a brassy dame who always survived.
"It’s a peculiar little movie that might seem grating or just overly earnest at first, but grows on you if you stick with it and adjust to its wavelength,” writes @mattzollerseitz.bsky.social about SALLYWOOD.

A fun thing to do if you have MAGA relatives is print out the Epstein emails, laminate them, and use them for placemats at Thanksgiving.

This is the baggy generation's equivalent of a shock Brexit vote. If only Stone Roses fans had got off their privileged arses and damn well TALKED to B52s fans on their own level, and as if they weren't ignorant scum, then maybe we wouldn't have seen this seismic outcome!

Watched it again today. It’s lovely. Review running tomorrow.
REBUILDING, out this week, is a wistful and elegiac picture that still left me hopeful about our capacity to rise out of ashes and make something more beautiful of our world — in other words, it's a distant dream, but a welcome one. Loved speaking to Max Walker-Silverman about it earlier this year.
"We often think of resilience as a continuation of something, whereas I hope resilience can also be a reimagination of something."

Director Max Walker-Silverman spoke with @isaacfeldberg.bsky.social abt his Josh O’Connor-starring cowboy drama REBUILDING & abt the beauty that emerges after loss:

Grateful I could go to various red carpets on behalf of @ebertvoices.bsky.social to ask folks, in the spirit of Roger, “What’s a movie that’s been an empathy machine for you?” The teaser shows a snapshot of the fine folks I was able to interview:
Our Social Media Manager, @Zacharylee.bsky.social, attended red carpets at various Fall Film Festivals. In the spirit of Roger’s famous words, he asked actors and directors "Which movies have been empathy machines for you?” Watch the teaser to see the talent he talked to. Who can you spot? 🧵

To recap: Jeffrey Epstein offered a NY Times reporter photos taken in Epstein's kitchen of Donald Trump and girls in bikinis *and* implored the NYT reporter to put this information in the public discourse in 2015

What did the NY Times editors know about this offer?
