Some really thought provoking points here:

"This widespread societal resignation of ‘guess our government communications now happens on a deepfake porn site’ is maddening, but also points to a deeper issue."

I call on my party and my government to remove themselves entirely from X and communicate with the public where they actually participate online and can be protected from such illegality.

I haven't noticed it said, but shooorly the X app breaches the terms and conditions of the Apple and Google app stores?

So. I reported the app in Google Play, hopefully others will do the same...

For people pondering the chances of convicting the #ICE officer who shot a defenceless woman in #Minneapolis, @radiolab.bsky.social podcast had an excellent episode a few years ago about the legal defence employed by law enforcement in such cases, highly recommended: pod.link/152249110/ep...

Re the Government should not be using X.

It's more that ministers and civil servants and MPs shouldn't be using X.

Because when one of them accidentally downloads material, they personally commit the offence - not the Government.

And Musk through X knows which MPs download which illegal material.

The latest high-resolution Met Office UKV model remains particularly aggressive regarding the impacts of Storm Goretti (named by Météo-France), with gusts of up to ~200 km/h modeled in the English Channel.

Don't let this Jan 6th point get lost:

Jack Smith testified to Congress he had "proof beyond a reasonable doubt that President Trump engaged in a criminal scheme to overturn the results of the 2020 election."

In other words, he could prove in court that Trump attempted a coup.

Five years since Jan 6, 2021.

Maybe the BBC could do a documentary, or something.

Whenever Pete Hegseth appears in my timeline I like to imagine him in some Dept. of War jet, hitting severe turbulence, tumbling Earth-wards, and blurting out at the last minute "I'm gay!"

13yo saw Marty Supreme. Like me, saw the ending as cynical and assumed Marty is still the same old fuckup. Apparently we misread this!

If you can't flip enough defectors (hardly out of the question on this topic) to pass something, you can still say what *should* be done and thereby what you *will* do when you have the majority. That's the minority's job even in normal circumstances, much less during a constitutional omni-crisis.

Keir Starmer should condemn Trump’s illegal action in Venezuela.

Maduro is a brutal and illegitimate dictator, but unlawful attacks like this make us all less safe.

Trump is giving a green light to the likes of Putin and Xi to attack other countries with impunity.

Marco Rubio is reportedly saying Maduro will stand trial in US courts.

Which means it’s now the US administration’s position that US courts can hold foreign presidents, but not the US president, accountable for crimes.

A Mad King has usurped the power of Congress—which represents the American people. That is, he has seized power that belongs to you and me collectively. He has declared war without consultation with or approval from Congress. And with no imminent threat. This is a profound betrayal of the republic.

A defining moment for Europe. If it endorses/fails to condemn this flagrant breach of international law, it will have surrendered its core justification for opposing Russia’s invasion of Ukraine
JUST IN: Trump says the U.S. has captured Maduro and his wife and flown them out of the country.

Yes, let's wait for the press conference and give them a fair hearing.
Once again the power of extreme cynicism to result in extreme credulity.
It’s at least refreshing that they don’t bother to bullshit us about freedom and justice any more. Yes, we are getting rid of the Palestinians so we can build hotels on their land. Yes, we are collapsing this government so our companies can loot their resources. This is what it always was, mask off.

Christmas invariably means stockpiling boxes of sweet treats ("you never know who might drop in!") that get left behind, confronting you with the dilemma:

- eek the contents out, a little every day until daffodils
- binge the lot and get it over with, then go sour January
- curse & bin them all
