If women are underrepresented in STEM, it's at least partly because men like this offer mentoring, then embarrass themselves by assuming their mentees must be into them, then decide the best solution is to cut ties, which sends the signal to other faculty that the mentee must not be good enough.

This sounds like a keystone cops scenario, but is actually an incredibly dangerous situation and an upshot of poor coordination. When I was U.S attorney, we took great pains to minimize this precise risk, which happens when diff agencies are working the same area.

Fullerton police stop man pointing gun at female driver, only to learn he is ICE agent
A Fullerton police officer told the agent he couldn't help 'with someone following or recording him if no crime had occurred.' Under state law, local police cannot enforce federal immigration law.

So many working journalists do good, vital work every day despite dealing with layoffs, page view quotas, furloughs, crappy wages, mercurial bosses and dodgy owners.

Then there’s Olivia Nuzzi and the guy who wrote the Olivia Nuzzi puff piece, and that’s what the public thinks “the press” is.

I'm seeing people wonder why ICE is going after Charlotte.

ICE has been at war with Charlotte's sheriff ever since he won in 2018.

We'd covered this at Bolts back in the day; this quote is from that sheriff:
“When the 8 African American sheriffs took over the largest counties in North Carolina, it became a threat to the good ol’ boy system,” says the sheriff of Charlotte. These new sheriffs broke ties with ICE.

But GOP lawmakers cracked down this week, overbidding the governor’s veto to adopt this law:
North Carolina GOP Is Cracking Down on the Black Sheriffs Who Stood Up to ICE
Boosted by new supermajorities, Republicans are closing in on legislation to mandate more collaboration with ICE and preempt local policies hard-won by immigrants’ rights advocates.

Sorry to add to the discourse but it's truly grotesque to sell a story about aiding this man's quest for power (in the name of love, of course, not support for a eugenicist's agenda) only to wave away questions about the ensuing societal damage as a matter for pundits.

Let's start with the obvious point. Don't use a technology whose purpose is to enable employers to get rid of workers so they can use an app to do the same job badly. Workers like . . . graphic designers for instance. Next, when using a selection of images, VARY your images. Total rookie mistake. 2/

The only thing that's interesting about Nuzzi is the story of how an amoral careerist with no interest in policy and abysmal ethics became an acclaimed national political reporter. But rather than tell that story, the entire media seems desperate to play a part in it.
It rocks that all 20 people who genuinely think the Olivia Nuzzi stuff is interesting have editorial discretion at major media outlets. Just publish your group chats

Okay, I did manage to get this blog post out before the (4pm PT!) livestream! 👀 There will be a considerable flood threat this weekend in some parts of SoCal as near-record moist airmass combines with other factors. Strong t-storms also possible. #CAwx
Southern California weekend storm looking increasingly powerful, with growing flood threat for LA Basin & beyond - Weather West
Quite some whiplash: from record heat to record wet (and yet one more damaging wildfire before that happens) Well, the weather this year sure is doing its best to keep us on our toes! The last 2-3 weeks featured record (or near-record) warmth across most of California and Nevada, as well as a good portion

Doesn't surprise me in the least. Full disclosure: I was one of the lawyers interviewed about this, and everything they say is accurate about how unprecedented this is. If I were to ask for a waiver for a client after they didn't pass a poly, I'd be laughed out of the room.

Does that implicate Trump in a sex crime? It implicates Trump in covering it up from 2000 to (roughly) 2004, when Ghislaine targeted the daughter of a Mar-a-Lago member.

Kind of crazy that evidence is mounting that the world is run by a group of rapists, pedophiles, and men convinced of women’s inmate natural inferiority, and the pundit class is trying to convince us that the real social crisis is that men are victimized and lonely because women have too many jobs.
You just know that “Did Women Ruin the Workplace?” bit would have done NUMBERS in this little clique
Something absolutely perfect about Larry Summers riffing about the scourge of woke cancel culture being unfair to predatory men in a friendly email to his pal JEFFREY EPSTEIN.

One fascinating thing in the Epstein email drop is an exchange around Trump's election in 2016. It suggests a tense, ongoing relationship - and Epstein's dark contacts.

Part 1: On Sept 23, Linda Stone jokes with Epstein that he'll get a cabinet position if Trump wins. Like Trump owes him one. 1/
