I have never killed anyone.
While looking up that episode, I was reminded of another excellent one—"No Special Duty"—about how law enforcement are under no obligation to protect the public from harm, the context for this one being the #Uvalde mass shooting.

For people pondering the chances of convicting the #ICE officer who shot a defenceless woman in #Minneapolis, @radiolab.bsky.social podcast had an excellent episode a few years ago about the legal defence employed by law enforcement in such cases, highly recommended: pod.link/152249110/ep...

I watched the clip and love his reaction to "here comes the dream re-telling" which doesn't involve eye-rolling.

Add @darioperkins.bsky.social and the TS Lombard Perkins vs Beamish podcast to your feed, they've been saying the same thing for ages, too.

Re the Government should not be using X.

It's more that ministers and civil servants and MPs shouldn't be using X.

Because when one of them accidentally downloads material, they personally commit the offence - not the Government.

And Musk through X knows which MPs download which illegal material.

The latest high-resolution Met Office UKV model remains particularly aggressive regarding the impacts of Storm Goretti (named by Météo-France), with gusts of up to ~200 km/h modeled in the English Channel.

Don't let this Jan 6th point get lost:

Jack Smith testified to Congress he had "proof beyond a reasonable doubt that President Trump engaged in a criminal scheme to overturn the results of the 2020 election."

In other words, he could prove in court that Trump attempted a coup.

Five years since Jan 6, 2021.

Maybe the BBC could do a documentary, or something.

I nearly wrote "addressing loneliness", but—of course—social media is as much a source of loneliness as cure for it.

Ten years since I left Facebook.

The answer to the question "would the world be a better place with or without social media?" has only become clearer in the interim.

The credit column has banter, memes, funny cat videos, connecting lonely people

The debit column has *waves arms at all this*

I mean, I'm Gen X, and use it, but it would be quite a stretch to say I'd fallen for it.

My slightly older kids are the same. AI is cringe, and they *hate* that I use it (productively!) at work and sometimes call upon it to quickly look something up when we're having a dinner-table discussion.

Whenever Pete Hegseth appears in my timeline I like to imagine him in some Dept. of War jet, hitting severe turbulence, tumbling Earth-wards, and blurting out at the last minute "I'm gay!"

We'll have the "robots" here in the UK and their VR headset-wearing operators working out of a warehouse in Lagos. Simples.

13yo saw Marty Supreme. Like me, saw the ending as cynical and assumed Marty is still the same old fuckup. Apparently we misread this!

The ending only would have made any sense if he'd lost that final game.

(At the time I really didn't know whether he would win or lose it, and when he won I was, like, oh well. Then the ending felt lame, but I we all had a blast watching it and would happily see it again. Chutzpah!)
