This is the 15th year of #DuvetKnowItsChristmas, which is preposterous. Rules: if you find yourself dealing with unusual / claustrophobic / gaudy sleeping arrangements this Christmas Eve, share a picture with the world. Use the hashtag (with capitalisation) and cc me if you can be bothered.

I hope The Ottawa Hospital trys to salvage the abomination across from Dow’s Lake with solar panels; however, I doubt they’d have the foresight (claiming prohibitive costs)…. #Ottawa
The solution is right above us. Solar panels on existing buildings, car parks, and along highways generate clean power without sacrificing farmland or wild spaces. Let's use our built world first. #Renewables #Innovation

The USAF reportedly shot down an aircraft over Venezuela. Reports state that it was powered by "multiple antlered propulsion units". DOD says the aircraft was operating without a transponder or flight plan and carrying a large quantity of suspicious packages while engaged in "seasonal trafficking".

The 2024 RHA Atlas shows how income-related differences in health outcomes have changed across Manitoba. While some previously identified gaps have narrowed, significant disparities still exist between people living in higher and lower income parts of the province.

The Polytechnique massacre wasn't just a mass shooting — it was a mass femicide. The gunman explicitly targeted women and blamed feminists for the troubles in his life. We must fight like hell to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

Don’t you dare forget their names.

Not one fucking word from any quoted health expert on cleaning classroom air.

Yes, talk about vaccines, ofc that's important.

But there's something else we could talk about here: a measure that protects everyone but doesn't trigger endless debates on the choice to vaccinate.

Clean classroom air!

Bailey's alternative.
Bailey's is owned by Diageo. This is the company that just shuttered the Ontario Crown Royal bottling plant in order to move production to the USA.
Corby is partly owned by Pernod Ricard, but this is made in Cowansville, Quebec by Ungava Spirits Co. (bought by Corby in 2016.)

A highly critical assessment of the role of the CMO Chris Whitty & Chief Scientist Patrick Vallance:
"reticence to use their independent voices in public or to criticise policy ... a misunderstanding of their role as predominantly loyal civil servants".
Hard-hitting truth-telling from UCL Prof Anthony Costello….

This is an astro turfed paper and student set up by Turning Point USA to try and get all trans people banned from higher education, it is beyond fucked up and bad. The focus on how bad the paper is, citing the Bible, the perverse use of amendment rights is all trees, the forest is the story
Oklahoma University has placed a grad student instructor on admin leave for failing a psychology paper on gender for citing *the Bible* as a source of empirical evidence.

In response, OU has placed on instructor on admin leave citing, get this, the FIRST AMENDMENT.

Universities are cooked.

I can’t adequately express how mystified and nauseated I am by the conversation about Trump receiving a Nobel Peace Prize that corporate media is now leading. But as a journalist, attorney, historian and Trump presidential biographer I’m now obligated to make the case *against* in full.

Here it is:
Media and MAGA Calls for Trump to Catch a Nobel Peace Prize Rather Than An ICC War Crimes Indictment Are Obscene
The second-biggest threat to global peace after Putin has earned a cell for war crimes—not a humanitarian award. That his grotesque and scammy appeal for a Nobel Peace Prize is working is terrifying.

Exactly, how much did the RCMP cost per person last year? Why are they not making a profit? Or the Canadian military, stop talking about the Canada Post as a for profit entity, it is a national service. Also let it expand into banking and financial services (as a co-op) and other sectors (grocery?)
Canada Post “lost” 1 billion dollars last year?

How about, “it cost Canadians 1 billion dollars to have a national postal service” which works out to costing about $25 a year per person (population of Canada in 2024 = 40 million). Seems like a pretty reasonable cost to me.
"Canada Post is on track to lose money" Hum. Duh. It cost less than a toonie to send a letter across Canada.

"Canada Post is a service and not a business" was common knowledge until late stage capitalism brain rotted most people into think if it ain't making money for shareholders, it's failing.
