I talk a lot about hobbies and how they’re important but a cool thing about them is meeting other people who do them. I regularly socialize with people old enough to be my parents and people young enough to be my kids due to hobbies

Alice Wong was one of the most effective people challenging the Whiteness of disability communities and its many flaws, but who believed fiercely in us as a community, in disabled people as oracles.

Alice brought so much to so many of us, it’s hard to measure the kind of gratitude I have for that.

If Alice's name is new to you, I envy you. You can start by having a rummage around the Disability Visibility website, with hundreds of interviews, articles and podcasts, or you could start by reading the anthologies Alice edited with Vintage, or read her memoir, The Year of the Tiger.

I've been collecting pandemic era signs that nobody can be bothered to take down or remove. There's something grimly fascinating about this. Putting them up was urgent and important; removing them is nobody's job. How long will some of these hang around?

First they blamed the Dems for not funding SNAP

Then they went to court to ask permission NOT to pay

The shutdown is ending & they’re making everyone reapply and “prove” they’re legitimately starving.

It’s almost as though they spent the money and have zero intentions of ever funding it again.
