@betonica.bsky.social
Herbalist, chemist, firefighter, emt, reader of trashy novels. Currently addicted to iNaturalist; there will be a new personal fad in a few months or years or something.
And yeah, my name's Allison, but I prefer betonica up there in lights.
My account here is pretty quiet... because I never post. And yes, I know this is just a meme swiped from That Other Platform. But I liked it.

Whoah. The three articles I wrote when getting my PhD are on this stolen-for-plagiarism-machines list. (Does the article come through? I'm still not getting the hang of bluesky...). I'll add my name to the class action suit.
Since this came out I've been so bitterly amused by how *much* of my stuff is here. Folks have spent so much energy declaring my work inferior and me a "DEI hire"... but then they stole every book, story, and even interview to feed their plagiarism machines.

And yeah, I'm adding my name.
"If your books were uploaded to LibGen/fed into the LLMs, add your name to the potential class action lawsuit by tomorrow." Details:

No, I'm not for war, either. I'm sort of amazed (and horrified) that we haven't evolved past it, by now.

Posted elsenet. I rarely post politics, but just in case anyone was in any doubt. Better put it here, too, in the echo-chamber ;)
Cousin pointed out that it leaves out being against war, so that post is next.

the core idea that can radicalize people is so simple:

there is enough.

there is enough food to feed everyone. enough resources to house everyone. money and technology and medicine to stop the suffering of people around the globe.

once you accept that there's only one question:

why don't we?

It is time for state and local governments to arrest masked officers who won’t produce warrants and who have no proof someone is undocumented.

Kidnappers should be arrested and indicted and tried for kidnapping and serve the many years such sentences carry.

good news out of california.
We’re announcing new legislation — the No Secret Police Act (SB 627) — to ban local/state/federal law enforcement, w/ some exceptions, from covering their faces when interacting w/ the public & require them to wear identifying info.

The secret police behavior we’re seeing destroys trust & must end🧵

The American Gestapo is apparently really upset that we keep calling them the American Gestapo. Good going. Carry on.

In a fit of boredom over on That Other Site, I declared April lolcat revival month. This was a good one, and while probably not my #1, it got the most reacts (28).

I pretty much block anyone who follows me who I don't know. But one *sure fire* way to be blocked is if you follow me and then, when I go to your profile, it says "don't DM me unless you're going to buy my product". BAM. (Where do these people get off??)

I wonder what it will be like? Should I start hoarding toilet paper now, do you think?
TFW you’re at 39% approval and the economic pain hasn’t hit yet.

I don't know who Oliver Kornetzke is, but I'm pondering ways to follow his advice (excerpt):
"NO violence. [...]Not a shred. That gives them the excuse they’re desperately craving to justify tyranny. What we need is coordinated, irritating, clever-as-hell, petty-as-fuck, infuriating noncompliance."

I HAVE HIGH SPEED INTERNET!!! Out here in the boondocks!
(Sorry for yelling) I don't know how many years ago I got DSL and thought that was a big deal. This is amazing.
still to figure out: how to get more to the outlying buildings, and how to get the house batteries to talk to it. But hey!
